Books

The Virgin Suicides by Jeffrey Eugenides
The best fiction I have read this year. Worth reading for the prose alone... It gives the illusion of floating through a literary dream.

Prozac Nation by Elizabeth Wurtzel
One of the best books to about depression - not because of its style, but because of its honesty.

Bitch by Elizabeth Wurtzel
The first Wurtzel book I ever picked up, and one I can't seem to put down. You either love her or you hate her.

Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance by Robert M. Pirsig
Fascinating, although the ending was a massive disappointment.

Vamps and Tramps by Camille Paglia
This is here because I haven't finished Sexual Personae yet!

Cold New World by William Finnegan
The best piece of journalism I have read in years. Completely honest and truthful. Excellent.

Wasted by Marya Hornbacher
Another one of those "girl goes to city and falls apart" books. Except for the fact that she wasn't in the city, she was extremely young, and she was anorexic. Unflinching.

Sybil by Flora Rheta Schreiber
Lay psychology, I must admit, but it's one hell of a story.

Severed: The True Story of the Black Dahlia Murder
This is the most violent, horrifying book I have ever read. If you do not believe humans are capable of evil, read this book. It is not for anyone squeamish or under 18.

Music

Celebrity Skin - Hole
Dear world, meet Melissa Auf Der Maur. The pinnacle of what a "California" album should be.

The Virgin Suicides - Air
French techno - so cheesy you have to love it.

Living in Clip - Ani diFranco
In my opinion, the best live album ever made. The title has always been a double entendre to me. Captures an interesting time in my life, and hers as well.

Dummy - Portishead
This hooked me from the first note. Melancholy and beautiful.

Pisces Iscariot - The Smashing Pumpkins
The title says it all.

Gish - The Smashing Pumpkins
Why I picked up the bass guitar. "Crush"

Films

Boys Don't Cry
The best-made film I have ever seen. It is so disturbing I doubt I'll ever watch it again.

Vieuphoria
"Being in a band can make you crazy..." A+

Kurt and Courtney
This is the movie that convinced me not to be a rock star.
