Case Studies

I will be presenting many case studies of kennel lines, lines of descent and analysis of progenitors from dogs that have made great contributions to the Great Dane breed. Though these are Great Dane bloodlines, the techniques observed for breeding and the study of pedigrees you should fined useful in the study of any breed of canine.

Currently the links to some chapters are under construction and few are available to the public. Please check back later as sections will be published periodically and separately.

The following case studies are here provided for your review:

Case 1:Eick Impeial - a photo pedigree is available to examine the few dogs we have found in the research of this dog.

We begin with Eick Imperial because the information available about this animal is roughly equivalent to what most average breeders know about the dogs behind their stock, little more than names. We will examine his background in order to determine what he may bring to the table if we were to breed to him today; the analysis is available here.

The phenotype of Eick cannot be traced through a photo pedigree due to the lack of available photos of dogs in his pedigree. But, in the ones available, we see the leggy type previlent. Since these dogs were also the basis for his linebreeding, we can only assume that they contributed to this phenotype. His outstanding rear angulation is not documented in the photo pedigree either, so we will need to do much more extensive research into the siblings of his ancestry to attempt to locate photo to determine how previlent this angulation is in his background.

case 2: Brilliant vom Ballerhaus, theanalysis is currently available. The pedigree with photos is still under contruction. Brilliant is the sire of Eick Imperial and the begining of the many dynasties which eminate from them. He is not as leggy as Eick; but, does exhibit the firm, level top line; currect headpiece and angulation prevalent in the line. Linebred on Whiskey von der Stadt Hamburg he carriers fawn crosses that exhibit the phenotype of the Saalburg dynasty that produced him.
