Ch. Bundes Sieger '65'66, Ger. Ch. Brilliant von Ballerhaus VDH/DDC46958, harlequin; line bred on Ch. Swiss Sieger Whiskey von der Stadt Hamburg (3;3) thru two of his sons Brillant von der Stadt Hamburg and Albo vom Estetal full brothers who are both grand sires of Brilliant VDH/DDC46958 and Carlos von Travestrand VDH/DDC37346 (4,4;4,4,5) [note that Carlos is also Whiskey's sire]. Brilliant's dam Anita von Fehmarnstrand VDH/DDC44237 and Brilliant's sire Dennis vom Foehrenbrook VDH/DDC45016 carry strong color cross breeding in their backgrounds.

Let us first examine the dam's side of the pedigree: Anita von Fehmarnstrand VDH/DDC44237 was a mantle, her full sister Anni vom Fehmarnstrand also produced a few dogs that can be found in the background of several generations of some prominent producers. Anita von Fehmarnstrand VDH/DDC44237 was line bred on Carlos von Travestrand VDH/DDC37346 (a harlequin product of a fawn/harlequin color cross) (3;4).
[note: There seems to be more mantle/black/harlequin crosses in this pedigree than normally encountered in this period, possible because of the heavy color cross breeding in the background.]

Other than the tight line breeding on Carlos VDH/DDC37346, the 4 generation pedigree of Anita von Fehmarnstrand VDH/DDC44237 presents some very close breeding:
Anita's dam Britta von Siebenbuergen VDH/DDC43134, a harlequin out of Grita von Mayrhof VDH/DDC40725 harlequin. Gritta was the product of a half brother/sister breeding [both parents having the same dam Ella v Schloss Mindelburg VDH/DDC34068 a mantle].

Ella von Schloss Mindelburg VDH/DDC34068 was a descendant of Ilse vom Schloss Mindelburg VDH/DDC24317 and Ger. Ch. Gunther von Schloss Mindelburg VDH/DDC24317 [which we see later in the breeding of Am. Ch. Kalandus von St.Magn-Obertraubling VDH/DDC36346 and Rux-Conny von St.Magn-Obertraubling].

The dam of Grita von Mayrhof VDH/DDC40725, Cilly von Mayrhof VDH/DDC38994 a black was sired by Ger. Sgr'50 Raudi von Muenchhausen VDH/DDC36241 the son of Ger. Siegerin '48/49/50 Karin von Muenchhausen, who will be analyzed in a later section.

Grita von Mayrhof VDH/DDC40725 was sired by Abo von Mayrhof VDH/DDC36272 who's sire was Cisko von der Stadt Pirmasens VDH/DDC31701.

The sire of Britta von Siebenbuergen VDH/DDC43134 was Arko von Nordermayer Duenenhof VDH/DDC41365. Arko's dam Asta von Buchenhof VDH/DDC3839A was also sired by Carlos von Travestrand VDH/DDC37346.

Therefore, we see that Anita vom Fehmarnstrand's dam is line bred of Carlos, who is a fawn/harlequin color cross. We will later discover that Holland Sieger'30 Jagla Moguntia VDH/DDC15506 [another color cross breeding product] plays an important role in her background thru German Sieger '50, Ger. Ch. Raudi von Muenchhausen VDH/DDC36241; if we search far enough probably we will find other fawn color crosses through several of the other ancestors in her background.

Anita vom Fehmarnstrand was sired by Albo vom Estetal who also carries Carlos von Travestrand VDH/DDC37346, as he is the sire of Whiskey von der Stadt Hamburg. Therefore, Anita von Fehmarnstrand VDH/DDC44237 carries this color cross on both sides and we could say very tightly line bred on Carlos. It is no wonder that any dog descending directly from her would have some very strong fawn strain qualities through this intense breeding.

Let us now turn to the sire of Ch. BS'65/66 Brilliant von Ballerhaus VDH/DDC46758, Dennis von Foehrenbrook VDH/DDC45016.

It would be appropriate to note that Dennis von Foehrenbrook VDH/DDC45016 was also the sire of Bimbo von Ballerhaus and King von der Stadt Hamburg VDH/DDC46793, both were foundation sires of several kennels. Bimbo the great grand sire of: World Sieger Sahib von der Flottbeck and European Sieger '74, World Sieger'74 Ger. Ch. Rondo von der Flotbeck as well as Ch. Bundes Sieger '73 Heros von Hamburger Hafen.

King was the foundation sire for Harlekin kennels of the Netherlands and their many German Champions, Bundes Siegers and top producing harlequins and blacks.

Further Dennis has three sisters from a previous litter: Astrid, Annet and Anja von Foehrenbrook. Both Anja and Annet are grand dams of Lux. Ch. Cyrus von Hamburger Hafen VDH/DDC48538, who is one of the early founding sires of the Nurburg line.

Dennis and his sisters are behind a great majority of the top winning and producing bloodlines of European and North American harlequin kennels, leaving many champion dynasties to their credit and are a credit to the gene pool that produced them.

Dennis von Foehrenbrook VDH/DDC45016 was out of Fanny von der Albersloeher Hoehe VDH/DDC41958, a harlequin from a brother/sister inbreeding. Her parents are from the "B" litter von Schloss Doggenau: Bento VDH/DDC40717 and Betty VDH/DDC40718 (a piebald). Their sire Veit vom Munchhausen VDH/DDC37253 and dam Andra vom Fanneneck VDH/DDC37300.

Andra was out of Fanny Funchen von der Heide VDH/DDC33083. Fanny's sire Indra vom Ginsterhof VDH/DDC29369 and dam Undine Funchen von der Heide - a grand daughter and line breeding again on Holl.Ch.'30 Jagla Moguntia VDH/DDC15506.

Andra's sire Barry von der Oberalster VDH/DDC34044 is the litter mate of Bessy von der Oberalster VDH/DDC34046, who is the dam of Carlos von Travestrand VDH/DDC37346 (sire of Whiskey and Wodka von der Stadt Hamburg).

All of this breeding goes back to Holl.Ch.'30 Jagla Moguntia VDH/DDC15506 a gene pool descended from Saalsburg and Amelienborg color cross breeding of the late 1920's and early 1930's.

Dennis von Foehrenbrook's sire Brilliant von der Stadt Hamburg VDH/DDC41180 (brother of Albo vom Estetal), a harlequin of harle/harle breeding from color cross backgrounds all, again going back to Holl.Ch.'30 Jagla Moguntia VDH/DDC15506 and Asgards, Stolzenburg, St. Magn and Obertraubling breeding.

We come to the following conclusion: Though the product of a first cousin breeding, background inbreeding is without question on Holl.Ch.'30 Jagla Moguntia VDH/DDC15506. The breeding behind Jagla will be discussed in much detail later, as it would be neglectful to overlook the contribution his gene pool has played in every champion dynasty of German breeding (fawn, black and harlequin groups). This background is what maintained the breed after both WWI and WWII and since every Great Dane in the world can be traced back to this gene pool we will give it the proper attention that it deserves.
