Nicolas and Bev

Nicolas and Bev Ayala are tag team translators for a growing population of Mexicans in the greater Waterloo area. Bev was born and raised here in Waterloo, met Nicolas, who was born and raised in central Mexico, while Bev was on a lunch break from her job as a shoe sales person in a downtown shoe store. Nicolas had just opened his Mexican grocery store and Bev decided that she wanted to try out a Mexican snack for her lunch. There relationship grew as they helped each other out. Bev would help Nicolas understand English documents while Nicolas would help Bev to understand the Spanish speaking customers coming into the shoe store.

Today they are now married and run a very busy Mexican grocery store as well as an authentic Mexican restaurant. Not only do they offer the regular services that go along with running a store and restaurant, they also help their customers to translate any and all paper work that the customer needs help with. They are willing to call places for their Spanish-speaking customers when there are no translators on the other end. They help with immigration papers as well as unemployment papers. They also offer a variety of services such as sending money grams and selling phone cards at a reduce price. They also organize dances featuring Latin bands from as far away as Chicago and Texas. They have helped in the past to organize Cino de Mayo celebrations in Waterloo.
