Fan Fair 2002 I didn't get to see Cyndi for about 9 months. I really wanted to meet her at Fan Fair, but I wasn't sure if she'd remember me. On Wednesday I saw her live doing her interview on MWL outside the Gaylord Entertainment Center, and then I got to go to the Flameworthy Video Awards and saw her again that night. I didn't get to talk to her though. On Thursday I was at the softball game, and I went and stood by the gate so I could talk to her when she went by. I finally saw her and I said "Cyndi". She turned around, smiled, waved, and said "Hey Lacey!" Then we talked for a second and she mentioned her present I bought her and how she wanted to get me backstage that one time. Then after the game I ran back down there and gave her a letter I had written. I also told her I'd see her at the convention center the next day and she said "Yeah! Come see me!!" :-) Then it was Friday, June 14, 2002. We (my sis and I) got up early to go to the convention center. I saw at 10 that Cyndi was going to be signing at the CMT booth. I got in line and waited. While I was waiting I saw a little girl standing by and crying. She wanted to meet Cyndi but the line had already been stopped and she didn't have a spot. I was going to give her my spot in line, but by the time I got close enough to them they had left. When I got to Cyndi I told her about them and she said, "If you see them again bring them back over". I walked around the convention center some and finally, in another Cyndi line, I found them. I took them back over to Cyndi and she was as sweet as ever to that little girl, whose name is Cori and who is also a singer. :-) She gave her a hug and signed her guitar. It was a really great feeling knowing she got to meet Cyndi. Then I went, with my mom and sister, over to the Tower Records booth to see Cyndi after that. We waited in line, and when I got up there I told Cyndi I wanted to go see her at the next booth too (I know I'm crazy, but her sweetness is addictive.), but they were making me leave. She said, "Who's making you leave?" I told her my mom and sis wanted to go to the river and watch the concerts so I had to go with them. She talked to her publicist, Maura, and said that I could hang out with her and be her 'little sister' for the day. I had told her I was going to Belmont to go into the music biz so she wanted me to get a behind the scenes look at being an artist. I got to go with her to the Green Room for a bit while she relaxed and looked at my scrapbook. There were all kinds of food and drinks there for the artists, but I was too excited to eat. I got an artist's guest pass, and thought I was pretty hot stuff. :-) Then Cyndi went over to the Country Weekly booth, and I got to sit out with Mark McGuinn, Cyndi, and Rebecca Lynn Howard while they signed. I thought it was really nice because Cyndi turned around a few times and said.."Are you alright?" Like I wasn't ok? :-) After that she had a bit to rest so we talked and she finished looking at my scrapbook. We talked about all sorts of stuff, and it was awesome to think she wanted to talk to me. Then we went up the elevator and she went to a couple interviews. After the interviews she was finally done for the day, and she was so tired! Her publicist, Maura, went to get the car and Cyndi and I went to the green room to wait. We got drinks and we just sat there and talked. We talked about our parents and Father's Day. I told her that I was just walking back to the hotel, and she said, "You're NOT walking back there alone!" It was only about a block, but she said she and Maura would take me back. :-) We got in the car (she let me sit in the front seat so I could get out easier) and we talked about the Adelphia and her show the next day. Then we got to the hotel. When we got there, in the middle of everything, she got out and gave me a hug. She was really tired from hours of signing and interviews, but she didn't let that get in the way of anything that day. She didn't have to let me get a look behind the scenes, but she did. She has a great heart, and I recommend standing in line for her any day. She is very down-to-earth, and she's a very special person, not to mention a wonderful songwriter and singer. I can't believe I have had the opportunity to hang out with her, and I thank God for giving me all He has! Then on Saturday Cyndi was at the Adelphia Coliseum. I was standing and singing, of course, and during "I'm Gone" she laughed and waved. I thought that was pretty cool and was really excited. Then she was saying goodbye to everyone and right before she left, into the microphone, she said..."Bye Lacey!" In front of some 100,000 or so people she waved and said bye to me. I seriously almost freaked out ~ ha ha! The lady next to me turned and said..."Did she just say bye to you?" And I was lucky enough to be able to say YES, as a matter of fact, she did!!
In February a lady from the Country Weekly called and asked about the picture with our tongues sticking out. I told her the story and she wanted to use the photo in an issue of Country Weekly. The magazine came out in March 2002 with us on the fan page. :-)
I got to see Cyndi again on July 21, 2002 in Springfield, OH. She had two shows that night and, of course, I stayed for both. I met up with a few people from the computer and took a few of my friends to watch the shows. We had a BLAST!! We saw Cyndi before the show and she waved out the bus window when she saw me. When they opened the gate we went and got our seats in the front row and got ready for the show. Cyndi and the band did great, of course, and afterward I talked to Chris, Cyndi's keyboard player, and told him I had a present for Cyndi. The present was the book with the emails you all sent to me for Cyndi. We talked for a minute and then he went backstage. A few minutes later Cyndi's road manager came out and said.."You're Cyndi's friend right? You're Lacey?" Then he said to bring who all was with me and go backstage with him because Cyndi was looking for me. While we were going back there he was like.. "I must be the ONLY person who hasn't met you yet!! Everyone was saying.. Lacey's here go get Lacey and I didn't know who you were!" ~lol~ We got back there and Cyndi was talking to her old roommate. They talked about me and she was telling everyone about me. It was so fun! She gave me a hug and signed for all my friends. Then she took pictures with us all, even though she was in a hurry. She ABSOLUTELY loved the emails, and I thank everyone again for sending them! We talked about MWL because I told her Maura got me a seat for it. She was mad and gave me the mother look because I was going to drive myself and she was worried about me. :-) She's so sweet! We all had a GREAT TIME!! After the second show we talked to Chris again and told him we'd see him on the 26th! They are all the best!!
