| I wasn't sure if Cyndi was going to be on MWL July 24, 2002 so I emailed her publicist, Maura, to ask if she knew for sure. When Maura emailed me back she said she was going to try and get me a seat for the show if I was going. She got me a seat and, of course, I went!! I drove 4 and a half hours to see her on MWL with one of my best friends, Krista. When it was time for Cyndi to come out she did and she stood over by me to come on when it was time. When she saw me she waved and said "Hi Lacey!" Then, she came over and gave me a hug. Everyone was looking at me like OMG how does that girl know her? :-) Then she did her thing with Katie and Greg (MWL hosts), and Ty Pennington (from Trading Spaces) and she was getting ready to go. Right as she was leaving and was kind of far away she turned around and said.. "BYE Lacey..I'll see you soon right?" I told her I'd see her in 2 days (because I was going to see her in Illinois on that Friday). She said.."Friday? Great!" and gave me a thumbs up. :-) It was DEFINITELY worth the drive!! The people all around me that got seats too asked..."How do you know her? That is SOO COOL!" and they said.."I can't believe that!! HOW AWESOME!!" so of course I told them all about her and how great she is!! I thought.."It really is awesome!! I can't believe how sweet she is to me!! I love her to death!!" | |||||||
| Well, I heard the news about Cyndi not recording anymore about a week or two before I went to see her. Like everyone I was shocked. I couldn't believe it, and I DEFINITELY didn't understand it! It was seriously the worst news I had ever heard. I happened to be emailed by people who had front row seats for the first show on October 26 (there were two Cyndi shows that night I was planning on going to) who asked me if I knew anyone who wanted them. I bought them and my dad and sister went to the show with me. The seats were RIGHT on the stage..I mean literally the front row is the stage, so I was pretty pumped. I had some birthday and goodbye presents for Cyndi from everyone plus the famous Cyndi fan book (thanks Lissa again for putting it all together!), and she knew I was going to be there. During her first show she had sang a few songs and talked a while about different things and she started to tell a story. She said something about there being someone there that meant a lot to her and how she wanted to have "a moment". She talked about how I was like her little sister and how I went everywhere with her and she always gets me backstage. She talked about the scrapbook I have of her and just how much I meant to her. She thanked me for everything I have done for her (which isn't NEARLY what she's done for me) and came over to me. I stood up and gave her a hug; it took ALL I had to NOT start bawling. People were saying... "awww how cute!!" and clapping. Everyone was just staring and smiling at me. :-) It was SOOOO adorable and it was DEFINITELY a moment! Then, after the show was over her manager came out and took me backstage. I got to talk to Daniel and Bruce, then I got to talk to Cyndi. It was just me and her in the dressing room, sitting and talking. She told me more about her decision, and I told her we'd all miss her, but we understood and we'd rather have her happy than hear her sing anyday. She LOVED the farewell book and told me to thank everyone for thier letters. She gave me her phone number and told me to call her when I go to Nashville so we can hang out. She said we could go eat or go shopping and she asked me when I was going to school in Nashville. We talked a while and she gave me the set list from that show. On it, underneath a song and above another one, it said Lacey. :-) I was on her set list! :-) Then she played the second show and was WONDERFUL as usual!!! |

| So, I had her number!! I was really excited to call her, but didn't want to bother her at all.. I then found out I was going to Nashville on December 17 to see a concert (featuring my man Joe Nichols) at the Wildhorse Saloon. My dad, who is the greatest dad in the whole wide world, took me to see the concert and CYNDI for my birthday present. I called Cyndi in November to tell her I was coming down, and she asked if I wanted to come to her house and hang out for a while. Well, yeah I thought that was a stupid question too, OF COURSE I wanted to! :-) So I called her when I got to town and I got to go see her at her house. She gave me the tour and showed me her gold record, which was awesome. She also showed me a picture of her and Trisha Yearwood when she was 17, and I thought that was pretty cool because the first time I met Cyndi and had my picture taken with her was when I was 17. :-) My dad stayed with us because, instead of him going back downtown and then coming all the way back to get me, Cyndi suggested he stay and relax with us! So we went for a walk and went to Starbuck's. Cyndi bought our drinks because she said she felt bad that my dad brought me and spent money on the gas to get me there. :-) She talked about how we are going to hang out and how she'll keep me "well fed" when I get down there next year, which is good because I LOVE FOOD... ha ha! She showed dad and me around town and talked about the different stores. I got to play with her ADORABLE dog Sammy, and got to spend some time with her, time without her needing to be somewhere, and without a schedule. It was awesome!! Definitely the BEST present EVER!!! My dad had never met her, and I wanted him to so bad. When we got in the car I asked him what he thought. I said, "Isn't she the BEST?" He just laughed and told me he thinks she's "Too good to be true". :-) No one can believe how great she is. No one knows why she likes me so much, and I definitely can't explain it!! She told me to call her more often than I do, and that when mom, my sister, and I go down there for Fan Fair we have to go shopping or out to eat. :-) She is doing great; she is writing and relaxing for a while and sends her love!!! |

| I wanted to share the behind the scenes Cyndi with everyone. She truely is a great person. She doesn't care who you are or where you're from..she is Cyndi to everybody all the time, and that's why I love her so much. It is a WONDERFUL feeling to be her "little sister"!!! | |||||||
