LABOR  DAY  2009
            Join this Historic March!  The 18th Annual Labor Day Parade 

The 18th Annual Labor Day Parade, co-sponsored by the Museum, Borough of Haledon and the City of Paterson, will celebrate the labor movement and organized workers. The parade, scheduled for Sunday, September 6th, 2009, will step-off at the Museum at 1:00 PM andinish at the Great Falls Historic District in the City of Paterson, where a festival with food, fun and entertainment will be taking place.

Grand Marshal will be Jason D'Errico, President, Passaic County Central Labor Council and recording secretary of IBEW Local 827.

All community organizations, unions, businesses, cultural groups and individuals interested in joining this historic march can contact the Museum at (973) 595-7953 or by e-mail at [email protected].  A Commememorative Journal will record the names of participants and all those who make donations to defray the cost of the parade. Parade sponsors who donate $100 can have their names recorded on a Commemorative Mug. Contributions of $200 will enable a donor to have a listing on the parade T-shirt. The deadline to register to participate in the parade and/or become a sponsor is August 9th, 2009.

It was on June 28, 1894 that President Grover Cleveland (a native of Caldwell, NJ) signed the bill that made Labor Day a legal national holiday. In that same year, on Moday, September 3, 1894, the first official holiday was celebrated and every first Monday of September thereafter.
