| The Carro Veloce CV33 Tankette is the result of Italian experimentation with the British built Carden-Loyd Mark VI tankette. Experimental versions CV 29 and CV 3 both used single 6.5mm machine guns. The production version, the CV33 Series I used this same weapon and a small number were built with a 37mm gun. By 1935 the Series II had been put into production. It used dual 8mm machine guns. The CV33 hull was used for the base of flamethrowers, armored recovery vehicles, bridgelayers, and armaments of all different variations were experimented on the tank. It saw action in the Spanish civil war, and was widely used in North Africa during WWII despite its obvious flaws. By the time it saw action however, it was already obsolete. Its armor was too thin and its armament was too weak to be effective against the modern technology of the allied tanks. |
