Back in the 70's, manmade beaches sprung up down here. This was Eunice's version, up La.13.
I knew someone would recognize it and sure enough several readers did. It, like Carnival Beach, north of Lafayette, is history.
Below is the Louisiana Plains' version of Miami Beach. The Holiday's mission was to charm you with its tropical envirionment and then give you a place to retreat to when one too many Hurricanes were experienced or......
Now, doesn't that just take you South Florida after a hurricane.?
Approaching Oakdale from the south, I turned west to check out one of my favorite bridges. Oh, yea, still rated at 3 tons though the sign was rusted and hanging. Could the rating be dated? Wasn't there a war movie about a simular bridge? Come on, a prison camp movie. "Bridge Over the River Qui".
For the weary traverler or one wanting to stop and eat, as I did, there is a road that goes down to the bayou just west of the La.104 Bayou Nezpique Bridge. There you can relax in the shade or take a dip. The Indians say the waters of the Nezpique can be muddy. They are right. Another drop from that rock. I'd missed this stop on a million crossings.
I keep ending up at Claiborne because I have such good memories of the place. We use to do 90 miles fast on the trails there. This is just an access road. I've ridden a four wheeler around up there and it isn't the same even when I do the dumb and start making it move.
A bike is a bullet, a four wheeler is a cannon ball. There's a difference.
I'm misting up.
Mike's recollection of the Holiday. I asked if he'd ever been there and he replied,

"Of course I did!!! hahaha!  actually only once.  1967!  I had a cousin that I saw Sunday for the first time in years (family reunion) who belonged to a rock and roll band in the late 60's and they had me drive them and their trailer over there and babysit them (bodyguard more like it)!  They were all still minors, so they didn't go back after the first time to the Holiday!  They then moved to the Sunset Drive-inn (I think that is what the name was) on Hwy 165 south out of Oakdale.  Played in the sunken concession stand in the middle of the drive in.  They were still showing movies at the same time.  But back to the Holiday club.  in those days, Hwy 13 ran into 104 and then turned to go into Mamou.   Then it went out the north side of town and up to Redell.  You can see the old road running parallel on the east side of the new highway.  The Holiday Club was on the corner then and Hwy 13 was still partial gravel and the customers used it as part of the parking lot!! haha!  That provoked some old memories!!
