* From Forest Hill I rode over to LeCompte and headed down wonderful* US 71 to Le Beau. It's not that far and the day was young*. The ride down La.10 from LeBeau to Melville is really an interesting ride. It crosses what was the Atchafalaya Basin before it was drained. There are remnants, but not many.
I was in Melville again and felt the need to take advantage of being there. I combed a few of the back streets and found the locations of the next two pictures which was convenient because they were on adjoining lots.
The above picture brings several questions to mind. I'll keep them to myself. The rock wept. Oops, too dramatic..
Leaving on La.105 out of Melville, I hopped the levee. That is a "borrow" lake. The dirt went to the levee. To the right, not shown, is the Atchafalaya River.
Getting off the levee, this scene just grabbed me as the "book" on so much of Louisiana. Just because it's a common sight, it's relevance cannot be denied and its beauty must be admitted. There are places when this much green would be considered Heaven and its absence, Hell. Ask a service man or woman.
Louisiana has sold Simmesport to Canada. More news later.*
On La.1, west of Simmesport, the new Simmesport, Canadian Provinces, Tourist Bureau, has taken up offices in the old caboose. I've never seen one made of stainless steel. Had it come from Canada? Why don't people take those Christmas decorations down?
Doesn't look functional. Maybe some card playing has been going on.inside. The window was broken so I stuck my camera in.
