| Rice pond dike in March. The dikes have passagways which allow some water to flow between them. Rice fields must be flooded and drained as the rice grows. The dikes may also alleviate the problem of elevation differences in the field by maintaining water throughout the whole field. Water on just one end of the field would be a problem. |

| These guys weren't hustling. They were "shooting the bull" in the air-conditioned cab as the auger filled the truck that would take the rice to the mill. Notice the weight on the front of the tractor. I would say that it allows for better steering and prevents the tractor from floating in the water filled fields. This was an appoved photo. He was waving dispite what you might think. |
