I just finished watching the made for TV series, Long Way Round.
In it a couple of guys ride around the world, almost.
I hadn't finished the Bayou Lafourche Series because I'd lost interest.
If you enjoy reading these things, thank the guys that took their ride because they motivated me to get off my butt and do this one. You can also thank Dave who replied to my pathetic question, "Who cares about these things, anyhow", with a vindictive thashing, "I do". My first thought was, "OK, Puddin', I'll spend 9 hours in the saddle and 9 hours witing the thing just for you.
Nope, reconcidering the motivational factors more thoroughly, Dave, I'm sorry, it was just the Long Way Round guys.
Oh, what did they say? To translate it using an old local song's lyrics, "You got to get it Papa".  (Cause gettin' it don't last).
So here we go on another of my "Shorts Ways Round".
Below: One more try at "taking" this classic shrimper.   It's name is "Loner". No, Fred, you can't borrow it. "Loner", as in "alone".
Old joke: What the lonelyist bayou in Louisiana? Answer: Bayou Self  Ok, it's a local joke. If  you're from Utah, you might not get it.
Of all the places I've lived in Louisiana, the area I think I like the most is the southern bayou country. There's something about roads with boat parking that makes me smile. I spent 3 of my younger years south of Houma. They, evidently were very impressionable years.
I played with the 13 kids next door, built rafts, ate all the different foods and generally melded with the countryside. Then we moved to New Orleans. That's another story.
Riding east from my home base on US 90, I passed up all the Houma exits. I saw that the Bayou Blue Road (flashing or Roy Orbison) hit La.24 way down in the swamps. 24 was my ticket to continue the Bayou Lafourche ride south from LaRose on famous La.1. I don't know which highway is more important, the bayou or the road? They are almost one.
I eventually came to La.55, a road that I'd ridden on during the Cocodrie adventure.
Prepare yourself, I take pictures of all these bridges. I think they are beautiful. There are 37 pictuers of draw bridges in this ride report.
For those looking for the Biloxi Belle, I found her at a dock in LaRose. She needed a doo.
Oops! Seems I'm not the only one that rides this road.
Going to LaRose, I left US 90 and took La316 to La57 to La.24 to LaRose on La.1. Bypassing Houma, Priceless.
Returning, I shortened the bypass by taking 660 from 316 to 24 and then back to US 90. Bypasing Houma, Priceless.
