A broad smile crossed my face as I turned off of La.24 onto La.1. With the help of my expensive GPS, I went north instead of the required south. Carl and I had done the same thing before. There is something about that intersection which is completely mind altering. I knew the Intracoastal Waterway had been to my left. I knew I didn't want to cross it to continue my ride south (to my right). Why did I do it? Then I had to wait for a boat to go through to accomplish the mistake. Entering town, some bikers had motioned me to take an alternate route. I knew it was a bypass and thought, "those guys are missing so much going that way". But, maybe, it was not "bypassing" they were concerned about. Maybe, it was the Intersecton Zone they feared. If you take the trip , fight your instints and go against the pull. Be strong, don't take the bypass.
I was now in boat parking land. Shrimpboats, houseboats, tugs and who knows whats lined the banks for miles. I think I was on the world's longest street?
Bridge photo No.2, we have a ways to go. Are you appreciating bridge art, yet?
Boat traffic is almost as romantic as train traffic. I guess it depends on your orientation.
I was a little tired, I remember. I doubled the numbers on the sign since there ain't but one way in and out. I flashed on those guys crossing Siberia and immediately my back straightened as I leaned into the wind. Actually, I have a windshield which I wish had louvers. I miss the wind a lot. Oops. I digress.
I was getting nervous. I wasn't seeing anything that blew my skirt up and I needed to take a picture, being one of my natural processes. This church came along. The churches reflect the population and since I try to include at least the evidence of people in these things, I stopped and shot it. It is a beautiful church. I've taken a lot of church pictures and I'm finding that denominations tend to have set models to the point of being cookie cutter buildings. Methodist and Episcopal churhes exhibit this often. I'm starting to think the Catholics might have a few design favorites themselves. I just heard you go "DUH, you've just come to that conclusion?" To you I say, "No, but it's the first time I've thought it important enough to express the obvious". Expressing the obvious is obviously a waste of time. Let's move on.
The real importance of the church picture is to make another point, one that I've made before but you might have forgotten. Churches in Catholic Louisiana were and still are in many cases, the center of the community. Voodoo had mentioned the neat historical markers featured in this write. Most were not easily seen from the road. I found this one when I pulled in to take the chruch picture. It was between the road and the parking lot, better seen from the church side. Again, community stuff was at the church. Yea, I can hear you going "DUH", again.
Galliano is not a new subdivision.

To Bourg, La.316.
To Grand Isle
La. 1's Bypass: La.3235
I used La.3235 to return from just below Golden Meadow. The speed limit is 50 behind Golden Meadow and increases to 70mph. Be sure you do not exceed the speed limits in the little towns on La.1.
