| Directing vs. The Director |
| When you direct, you don't exist...Let me put it another way. All that is important is those actors in front of you, the set, the technicians, the crew, in short everything that is "outside" of you. Allot of directors are too busy trying to act the part of "A Director" instead of putting 100% of their energy into directing. When you first meet a director, you can tell within seconds, whether they want you to be impressed with them or with their work. Yes the director needs a good image to get the job, have the cast and crew believe in them--------but after you've got the job, drop all the fucking pretense and realize this, all that matters is the work. To hell with your Director image, you have to do what ever it takes to get the absolute best out of all your people. When you direct, actors are either at your feet or your throat! Don't worry about that, you don't have to get involved with them, marry them, sleep with them, but you do have to work with them. So you better find a way to become their biggest fan and mean it! |
