Postal Rates From the UK

Listed in the tables below are the postal rates, as found in the Post Office booklet "Our Services - All  You Need to Know".  Alternatively you could look at the Royal Mail Website for more information.

Here are some of the basic rates given in the booklet.

Sending Mail Within the UK

Prices given are for mail sent within the UK, also the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands.

*Items heavier than 750 g cannot be sent Second Class

**Plus 85 p for each 250 g or part thereof

First Class Post

They aim to deliver all First Class items the next working day.  Obviously, the price of the postage of the item depends on its weight (as listed above).

Second Class Post

For less urgent items.  They aim to deliver item by the third working day

NB.  I would expect you to send my stuff First Class :o).  The Second Class Prices are there for reference only.

Recorded Delivery (Signed for):  I would recommend using this when you're sending valuable genuine CDs or other genuine items.  Gives you a proof of posting - when it is delivered to the address, it is signed for by the recipient.  Costs an extra 63 p on top of the prices given in the table above.  You can check if your item has been delivered by 'phoning 08459 272 100 or visiting the Royal Mail Website.

Proof of Delivery receipt can be obtained for £2.20 (but by that time you'd have your customer complaining!)

Sending Mail Abroad

A little more complicated, in that Royal Mail divide the countries in the world into different sections, and charge different prices for each section.

Divided up into:

Europe: Albania, Andorra, Armenia, Austria (EU), Azerbaijan, Azores (EU), Balearic Islands (EU), Belarus, Belgium (EU), Bosnia Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Canary Islands, Corsica (EU), Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark (EU), Estonia, Faroe Islands, Finland (EU), France (EU), Georgia, Germany (EU), Gibraltar, Greece (EU), Greenland, Hungary, Iceland, Irish Republic (EU), Italy (EU), Kazakhstan, Krygystan, Latvia, Liechenstein, Lithunia, Luxemborg (EU), Macedonia (Former Yoguslav Rep. of), Maderia (EU), Malta, Moldova, Monaco (EU), Netherlands (EU), Norway, Poland, Portugal (EU), Romania, Russia, San Marino, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Spain (EU), Spitzbergen, Sweden (EU), Switzerland, Tajikstan, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Vatican City State, Yugoslavia (comprising Kosovo, Montenegro and Serbia only)

World Zone 1: all those not in Europe or World Zone 2

World Zone 2: Australiam Belau (Palau), China (People's Rep), East Timor, Fiji, French Polynesia, French Southern and Antartic Territories*, Guam, Japan, Kiribati, Korea (Democracti People's Republic), Korea (Republic of), Micronesia (Federated States), Mongolia, Nauru Island, New Caledonia, New Zealand, New Zealand Island Territories, Norfolk Island, Nth Mariana Island, Papua New Guinea, Phillipines, Pitcairn Island, Samoa (American), Solomon Islands, Taiwan, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu, Wake Island, Wallis and Futuna Islandm Western Samoa

*No air mail services available

You can deliver items abroad two ways: by air mail (Par Avion) and by surface mail (Maritime)

Airmail

Western Europe

2 days following day of posting

Eastern Europe

3 days following day of posting

Rest of the World

4 days following day of posting

Suface Mail

Western Europe

2 weeks

Eastern Europe

4 weeks

Rest of the World

8 weeks

Recommended that you use Air Mail.

Airmail Prices

CDs in a Jiffy bag (Bubble mailer) are classified as small packets (you must write this on the packet).

 Surface Mail

If you are sending from the UK to a country not in the EU, you must attach a Customs document.  You may need to attach two depending on the values of the goods.  Available at the Post Office.
