I am there at the beginning, swimming in chaos, warm like sunlight and sweet.
I am there, stretched forever, touching eternity with intangible spirit.
I am the cosmic serpent, coiled and ready to strike;
          the tongue of
Audhumbla;
          the sleeping
Vishnu.
I am
Ra and Yahweh, breathing out the life force,
                                        the
Anima Mundi.

I am instinct and intuition: I tell the leaf to seek the sun, the root to seek earth,
worms to burrow and dragonflies to fly.
I am the leaf, the root, the worm, the dragonfly, and their spirits mine and mine theirs,
          united,
          the lines between us indistinguishable.
I am there, aware of being
                                        everything.

I am in sumer,
pressing styluses into clay.
I am
Thoth painting scarabs and ankhs.
I am the
disk of Phaistos, and the Rosetta stone.
I am Huang Che and the spider.
I am there at Babel,
          still there,
          still all,
                                        unaware of my greatness.
At least there is light to read by.

I am there at death.
I am
Caligula, Vlad Tepes, Hitler.
I am Pythagoras, Socrates, Ghandi.
I am Boudicca and Mother Theresa.
(My right hand sees what my left is doing, and it hates it.)
I am there at the resurrections: Osiris, Jeshua ben Joseph, Hiram Abiff.

The central computer is down, and I am a schizophrenic goddess.
                                                            I bless.
                                                            I curse.
                                                            I contradict myself.
I only hear one voice at a time.
