Some
claim that he is counted among the seventy-seven surviving illuminated
ancients of the secret sunken isle of Lemuria, some that he is the bastard
son begot of a Persian concubine by an amorous efrit, still others that
he is the son of St. Cajetan, born in a small hamlet of the New World
and there raised by the savage outcasts of that land. It is whispered
that he is a chaste practitioner of DaDa, hunting after the dreaded Fnord,
but also that he has chosen the cackling Fiends of Geburah as his totems.
It is said that he rid the River Thames of the insidious Giant Rat of
Sumatra, but also that he is responsible for the freedom of the savage
Brass Boar of Oroboros. He has been the architect of empires and the toppler
of nations. Mighty deeds and major transgressions are all listed in the
litany of his uncertain past.
Nothing is known of him for sure, save one
thing: he is the Catalyst. Change gathers around him like water in the
footsteps of giants. For good or ill, for the betterment or detriment
of his fellow man (if they are, indeed, his fellows), the winds of change
move to his breath. Where he passes stasis may not long remain.
