SYLLABUS
COURSE DESCRIPTION
Physical Education is a full year course offered in quarter segments designed to provide the students with a variety of physical activities, an opportunity to improve personal fitness and health, and the opportunity to pursue advanced experiences in many sports activities.

Materials needed.  To be brought to class everyday or kept in Gym Locker.
1. P.E. /Gym Clothing � T-shirt, athletic/sports/cut-off shorts, or athletic/warm-up pants, etc.  
NO jeans,
    jeans shorts, or Capri pants, tube tops, sports bra, and spaghetti strap blouse/tops (girls).
NO shirts with
   profanity, alcohol, drug, sexual or other inappropriate references.
2. Athletic/Gym shoes � no hard or leather sole shoes, slippers, sandals, zori�s, boots.
3. Combination or keyed padlock for lockers.
4. Pencil/Pen � black or blue only.   High Light markers.
5. Ringed notebook for Journal and taking lecture notes.


ATTENDANCE

1. ELEVEN (11) unexcused absences will merit a grade of No Credit (NC) for the course.
2. THREE (3) tardys equals one (1) unexcused absence.
3. Being tardy for more than ten (10) minutes will be considered an UNEXCUSED ABSENCE.
4. Students must bring parents� or Doctor�s note within two (2) days after absence to be excused.  
5. A maximum of SIX (6) parent notes per semester.  Doctor�s note will be required thereafter.
6. Three (3) consecutive days or more require a Doctor�s Note, otherwise absences are unexc
used.

NON DRESS/NON PARTICIPATION

� Class attendance, dressing in P.E. attire, daily participation is required for points and final grade.          
   Written/Skills tests and other class work also included in final grade..
� ONE (1) NON DRESS/NON PARTICIPATION equals (minus) -3 points per day.
� SIX (6) NON DRESSES/NON PARTICIPATION will merit a FAILING GRADE. 
� Points lost because of NON DRESSES/NON PARTICIPATION cannot be made up.
� Any combination of Non Dresses/Non Participation and Absences totaling -26 points will re
sult in a
   FAILING GRADE.

SYSTEM
Grading Scale
Grading is on a point system.  Points will be obtained by attendance, dressing out, participation, written, skill/fitness tests, written class work, and journal notebooks.  The percentage of points you obtain against the number of possible points will give you a grade based on the following scale:  Attendance, Dressing
Out, Participation, Fitness & Skills � 80%, Knowledge: tests/exams, class seatwork, journals, projects, reports, etc. � 20%.   The final grade will be based on all daily points, performance, class participation and cooperation, and written work measured by total points deducted or accumulated.

Make-up Work � Extra Credi
t
1. Written Report on Health related subjects.  150 words a point (300 words = 1 excused absence:2pts.).
2. Run laps (3 � baseball field/2 � track).
3. Attend a GW sporting event and write a one page summary of the game: 150-300 words.
4. Journals, research paper, opinion/reaction paper, or special project offered by teacher.
5. Syllabus handout signed and returned within two (2) days a
fter receiving document.
