| We support Instant-Runoff Voting. IRV is a form of voting where the voter is given the opportunity to pick their first, second, and third choice among the candidates for office. If no candidate receives a majority after the first round of voting is complete, the ballots cast for candidates with less votes are re-counted for the second choice on the ballot. This continues until one candidate receives a majority of the votes. |
| We reject the use of waterboarding and other forms of torture during interrogations. Waterboarding is a barbaric practice used to simulate drowning on the person being questioned in order to make them panic. It has led to actual drownings, heart attacks, and lung damage. Torture is unconstitutional and has no place in a democracy. |
| We reject illegal surveillance on American citizens. Dictatorships have always used surveillance to monitor dissidents and control their populations. Without court oversight, wiretapping and other forms of surveillance can quickly lead to government persecution of opposition movements that disagree with the government. |
| We reject the use of war as a first choice rather than a last resort. Dictatorships often use times of war in order to marginalize opposition and paint people who question the government as "unpatriotic." Nationalist fervor during wartime can be abused by corrupt government officials to control populations. This cannot be allowed. |
