A Better Observation ![]() On Friday, February 15, Republican House minority leader Mitch McConnell observed the following about Democratic attempts to remove ex post facto laws granting immunity to corporations involved in illegal eavesdropping on the American public. “It leaves you with the impression that they are more interested in seeing companies in court than seeing terrorists in jail.” Since Bush has promised to veto any wiretapping legislation bill that does not grant immunity to corporations involved in the illegal practice in the past, one could more correctly observe that Mr. Bush is more interested with protecting illegal corporate practices than seeing terrorists in jail. 2008-02-16 07:37:54 GMT

Bush also said he would veto any temporary extension of the existing law. So when it expires, it is basically because Bush was not willing to compromise. He tried to "take his ball and go home," but the democrats called his bluff.
