Chad lazily stared off into space as Mrs. Ushi rambled on about concepts and principles.  He rolled his eyes.  School was so boring.  He leaned over and snuck a quick glance towards his friend, Rick.  Rick looked as if he was going to fall out of his chair any minute.  Chad tossed a paper ball towards Ricks head.  Rick immediately jumped out of his seat, looking around in confusion.  Mrs. Ushi looked up from her desk.
Uh, hello?! Mrs. Ushi shouted.  Ridge?  What do you think youre doing?
Its Rick, you dim-witted freak. Rick softly mumbled under his breath.
What did you say, Ridge?  Would you care to repeat that? Mrs. Ushi asked, looking extremely irritable.
Uh, no. Rick said, feeling embarrassed.
The entire class started rumbling into laughter.  Everyone started making jeering comments to Rick.  The bell rang.
Chad jogged over towards the door.  He had to get outside.  Mrs. Ushis classroom was like a sauna.  Rick slowly sauntered out.
Hey, Ridge! Chad said with a teasing voice.  Whats up?
Chris Sakai ran up behind them.
Mrs. Ushi is so duff! Chris exclaimed.
You know, Chris, I think youre beginning to wear that phrase a bit too thin. Rick said, annoyed at Chriss choice of words.
      Chris frowned.
Thats not funny, he said ,as he left.
What a doofus. Rick said, with a laugh.
I know. Chad said. Well, I have to go a Leo Club meeting.  Were going to have an HWAA bowling this week.
Sure, whatever, Mr. Good Samaritan. Rick said.
Chad just sheepishly grinned and walked off.
When Chad got to the meeting, all of the seats were taken.  He had to stand up next to the door.  By the second half of the meeting, Chads legs were starting to get tired.  Suddenly, he saw a someone stand next to him by the door.  It was a girl.  She had long, brown hair and was wearing these really cool Vans shoes.  However, she looked like she was going to fall over to one  side because of the numerous key chains on her back.  Chad assumed that she was new.  He had never seen her before and he was sure that he would have remembered a girl like her if he had seen her.  She was well...very different.  However, Chad really liked something about her.  He decided to try to talk to her.
      Psst. Chad whispered to her.
      The girl turned towards him.
      Huh?! She said.
Uh...uh... Chad said, startled.  He was confused.  He had only met her, but he felt this strange connection to her.  Uh...hi.
Uh, hi... The girl said, looking at him kind of funny.

Oh no! She already thinks that Im a weirdo.  What is it?  Is something on my face? Its my hair isnt it? Chad thought, panicking. He immediately put on his cap.
Hi, my names Chad Theo. Chad shyly said, plastering a huge smile on his face.
Im Sharon Kim. The girl said.
Oh, Chad said.  Cool.  Are you in band.
      Sharon nodded.
Oh.  What do you play?  I play the bari-sax.  Chad said.
I play the flute, but I dont like it.  Ill have to admit, woodwinds suck.  Brass definitely kicks much more ass. Sharon said.
Well, I guess Ill see you in band tomorrow then, huh? Chad said, starting to feel unusually giddy.
Yeah. Sharon said, smiling happily.  You seem like a pretty cool guy.  Maybe we could get a bite to eat some time or other.
Sure. Chad said ,a bit stunned by her directness.
      The bell rang.
Well, see ya. Sharon said, slyly winking.
Chad walked off feeling slightly dazed.
                                                                *****
Sharon walked towards her next class.  She had math class with Mr. Gaffer.  He was a real weirdo.  He scared her.  The only thing cool about him was his Vans shoes.
      Hey Sharon. Mr. Gaffer said.
Uh, hi. Sharon replied, feeling a bit scared by the fact that he knew her name.
She sat down in an empty seat.  Another guy sat next to her.  He tapped her on the shoulder.
      Huh? Sharon said, turning around.
Hey...are you new? the guy said.
Yeah. Sharon said, noticing the rather large size of his head.  It reminded her of a big cheese block (cheezehead!).
My names Rick Konagiya. Rick said, outstretching a hand.
Hi. Sharon said, wondering how he got to be such a tall giant.
Are you in nihongo? Rick asked, stressing the word nihongo.
Yeah. Sharon said, shuddering at the thought of having to go to Mrs. Wongus class.
Its okay, as long as you dont say every syllable.  I hate it when people say shi-ma-su.  They sound like such dumbasses. Rick said.
Sharon smiled. She liked  to use the word dumbass a lot too.  She had a feeling that she and Rick would be great friends.
After school, Chad walked toward the bandroom to meet Rick.  He couldnt wait to tell Rick all about Sharon.  He really liked her.  He waved as he saw Rick  approach him with a big smile on his face.
Whoa, Ridge....its pretty weird to see you coming from Graffers with a smile on your face. Chad said, ready to tell Rick about Sharon.  You would not believe my luck.  I am having a great day.
Oh, really?  What? Rick asked.  Cause something great happened to me today too.
      What? Chad asked.
      Oh you first... Rick insisted.
Okay, well...I met this great girl. Chad started, picturing an image of Sharon in his head.
Really? Whats her name? Rick asked.
Sharon.  Sharon Kim. Chad said, grinning from ear to ear.
