I'm afraid it's just not practical in my life now to own a horse as
expensive as Zeke.
No one from my inside circle of friends and students wants to lease Zeke,
and I would have a really hard time letting anyone outside that circle ride him, as I love him and I'm very protective of him. So I'd have that $500/month payment over my head until he was paid for, which is a lot to think about. Our farm and my school exist right on the border between solvency and bankruptcy and I already own eight horses! That combined with Zeke's physical imperfections leads me to the conclusion that I need to go back to our original agreement whereby I train him and sell him for you. Know that I say this with tears in my eyes!
If you'd like me to sell him for you, here's my proposal:
You pay me $350/month (reduced from $500 for your benefit) to keep him and
train him, while I market him and try to sell him. My normal full training and
board fee is $700/month, so you're effectively paying me half of that now, and the
other half when he sells and you have some money.
You would pay for any advertising, vet, farrier or dentist fees, supplements, etc. as they occur. I just had Zeke's teeth floated Tuesday (his teeth were terrible) and
that cost me $35.  His feet were trimmed, re-shaped and put into new shoes after his original vetting, which cost me $85. His supplements are $13.00 per month for daily wormer and Cortaflex, which is working beautifully! Little costs like these would be paid by you as they come up. Your current balance for November would be $350 for November's board, plus $6 for supplements in October (daily wormer only) and $13 for supplements in November, $85 for his shoes and $35 for his dentistry, which all totals $489. I will forward these bills, which I've already paid, to you.
Please send me your mailing address. :-)
When Zeke sells, you would pay me the remaining $350 for every month I had
him (but only $200 for October, because you already paid me $500 for that month). Plus I would get 10% of the sale price as my commission. We can start his price out wherever you want it, perhaps $20,000.  But with those x-rays, you might want to consider a lesser price. I'll leave that entirely up to you.  I would want you to leave him with me for six months and not take him away before May 1, 2001 unless you paid me the remainder of my accrued training fees before he left. If I can't sell him within six months' time, you can take him back and not owe me anything, or leave him with
me longer under the same terms. That way, if you're not happy with my performance, you only have to abide by our agreement for six months, sorta like listing a property
with a realtor, AND it behooves me to sell him quickly. He'll be in full training the entire time.  If Zeke doesn't sell during the six months due to his not passing vettings,
you would owe me my back training fees before he left here, or we could apply it to his price if I decide to buy him, and you accept my offer at that time.
Let me know if you agree to these terms. They're pretty much what we
originally talked about, only more live-able for you, I hope.

Comment:  This is the day on which I was supposed to receive my first payment and the sales contract.  Note that I am instead receiving a bill and a rather confusing new consignment arrangement. AND, she is actually charging ME for the new shoes he needed after HER prepurchase exam! I paid this bill, without a complaint; yes, what a fool I am. But, I NEVER want to worry about my horse's well-being. Also, excuse me, but I don't remember asking for any supplements, so why I am paying for them, without ever having been consulted about why he needs them?
