Suncadia is a proposed master planned resort (MPR) in Washington State. The exact location is near the cities of Roslyn and Cle Elum.
The proposed size of Suncadia resort ( formerly Mountainstar ) is approximately 6,000 acres. When completed,
Suncadia resort should have around 4,100 housing units. Of those units, 1,900 are to be detached single-family homes. 900 will be condominiums and town homes. The remaining 1,400 units will be chalet-type recreational homes. (We know it doesn't add up. These numbers are from Trendwest's Draft Environmental Impact Statement)
Trendwest has discussed designating approximately 200 acres in Suncadia resort for a horse park. The park would be home to as many as 1,000 horses. Some plans for the horse park are: meeting rooms, an arena, a "grand prix field," and a "polo field."
There has also been discussion of a mining interpretive center in Suncadia resort, exact location to be announced.
At the center of the Suncadia resort is over 100,000 square feet of space for shops, restaurants, public facilities, and a amphitheater with seating for 3,000 people. The two planned championship golf courses will undoubtedly top the list of
attractions at Suncadia resort.
Many employment opportunities will be created by project completion. Such jobs
in and around Suncadia include construction, hospitality, maintenance, food service, retail, security, and sales. The total number of full time jobs
created by Suncadia resort could reach 1,500 or more.

1881
Walter J. Reed filed a preemption claim including the area now known as Cle Elum, Washington. He and Thomas Gamble later discovered coal nearby, in what is now the city of Roslyn.
1886
The discovery of coal in what is now called Upper Kittitas County brought coal mining to the area. Coal mining continued until 1963, when the last mine (No. 9) closed.
1889
The Brick Tavern opened in Roslyn. Originally run by John Buffo and Peter Giovanni, The Brick Tavern is the oldest continuously operating saloon in Washington. James Shearing operated a soda fountain on the site during prohibition. "The Brick" is currently owned by Larry and Wanda Najar.
1977
Trendwest hired Archaeological Frontiers of Eugene, Oregon to conduct research for a proposed master planned resort. According to the Association of Historical Archaeologists of the Pacific Northwest (AHAPN), "the project has attempted to discover the role the landscape played in the development of the local communities of Roslyn, Ronald, and Cle Elum." Sources indicate that Trendwest has spent a total of $3 million studying MountainStar's environmental impacts.
1990
Northern Exposure, a hit television show created by Joshua Brand and John Falsey, was filmed on location in Roslyn. Additional filming took place on sound stages in Redmond, Washington. The last episode of Northern Exposure aired in July 26, 1995.
1996
Trendwest sponsored a contest in January of 1997 to find a name for it's master planned resort. On April 24, they announced the name: "MountainStar Resort."
2004
Mountainstar changed the name of the project to "Suncadia."
