The game is played in the old Ocean style, you walk from left to right shooting the baddies, and picking up the bonuses, things like extra energy, bigger guns and the like.
This part of the game can actually be very difficult, due to the amount of bad guys on screen at any one time, there are tons!
This style carries on through most of the game, but at certain sections you get a quick breather from the side on action, and you get a chance to use a different view, One of these sections is taken straight from the film, in the film a guy is trying to rape a lovely girl, well Robo turns up and the guy takes the girl hostage, well Robo does what any man in his right mind would do, He shoots the guy where it hurts!!
Anyway in the game, this is kind of a mini game, its reminicant of Operation Wolf, althogh only on one screen, and with one baddie, but its the same view and the graphics are as good, if not better!
Another Mini game section. sees Robocop, trying to find out who killed him, this is done in the game like a photofit session, and it is very close to the film, well as close as a spectrum could get!
Other than these two diversions, the game sticks with pretty much the same style throughout.
The graphics, they are typical of the spectrum in that there is tons of detail but no colour, personally i dont mind the lack of colour, as it brings out the actual drawings better! And the artwork is top notch again, although not as good as some later spectrum games, it still deserves a mention!
Although it was classed as a coin op conversion, this game bears very little conection with the arcade machine, In fact id say this has a lot more depth! |
