| Oddworld - Abes Escape Mission |
| Just when you thought the speccy was dead and buried, along come a group of coders and only go and remake one of the best playstation games and give it an all new 8 bit feel! Yep, youve read that correctly, a group of coders have actually squeezed a version of Oddworld onto our beloved Sinclair Spectrum, this is just the sort of thing this scene needs, more games, and a bit of imagination. |
| If you havent heard of the Oddworld games then you must have been asleep forthe last 10 years, first released on the playstaiation and Pc, these games see you controlling a strange alien type character called Abe, in the games you must help Abe save his friends from some other alien types intent on eating them! This is played over a set of huge areas, all viewed from the side, but dont be fooled into thinking this is a platform game, nope its much more than that, its a thinking persons platform game. You really need to use your brain, as well as your jump and run skills. |
| What about this remake though? Well surprisingly, this is pretty damn good, in fact it would be very worthy of a paid release, but even better they are letting people download it for FREE! The game plays very closely to the original, and if it wasnt for the graphics, which are good, but are never going to reach the standards of the mega machines of today, then this could almost be the original. You must talk to fellow aliens, to get them to follow you and help in various tasks. |
| By using a special magic chant, or by just pressing the '0' key, you can possess certain enemy aliens, and take full control of them, causing them to die, in quite humourous circumstances! The game runs at a nice speed, and never feels slow or dull, in fact it is one of the better Spectrum games ive seen. The controls can be user defined, or you could go with the original layout, which is equally as easy to use as the originals. |
