GHOSTBUSTERS
Released back in the golden age of 1984, just after the release of the hit hollywood movie of the same name, this was one of the first computer games based on a major hollywood movie.
The game begins with you choosing your car, and some equipment to put in it, this includes stuff like ghost traps and other ghost catching equipment When you start you are given $10,000 to play with, you wont be able to buy all the stuff, this is where the game is replayable, if you finish the game you are given an account number, which holds all the funds that you previously earned, so you can buy a better car and equipment. Once you've brought all of your equipment its into the game proper. The first thing you see is a very basic map of New York, you control a little Ghostbusters logo, it all looks a bit like Pacman, but nothing on this screen can harm you. Walking around this screen are a key and a gate, these represent the Keymaster and the Gatekeeper from the film, once these meet up at the zuul building in the middle of the screen its the end of the game. They will only get to zuul when the PK energy reaches 9999 though so you have a fair bit of time.

Once the ghost is caught in your beams you must then fire your trap, if this catches the ghost then well done, if not then one of your Ghostbusters gets slimed and is out of the game until you go back to HQ. The game starts very slowly with almost no ghosts, but soon picks up and the city will become infested before you know it. Not only that but sometimes you will get a visit from the Marshmallow man, he will appear and destroy some buildings costing you money! unless you stop him! The game ends when the key and gate arrive at zuul, If you've earned $10,000 or more you go into the last section, in this bit you must get two out of three Ghostbusters past a jumping Marshmallow Man, this is very challenging, but can be done with split second timing! |

Although on first play, it may seem a bit dry, the game has a lot to offer for one that is so old. When you first start playing Ghostbusters, you are greeted by the famous no ghost logo, along with some of the first digitised speach in a computer game, okay so all it says is "ghostbusters" but that is beyond the point, if no-one had realised that voices could be put into computer games then most of todays games wouldnt be half as good
Every so often a building will flash, this means that there is a ghost, so you must move up to that building and press fire, making sure to take the quickest route. Once on route to a bust you get the chance to drive the car, this section could have been a lot better, you dont actually have to do anything, just wait until the car reaches its location. Once at location, you must trap the ghost, this involves moving your two Ghostbusters opposite each other, and firing your proton beams, anyone that has seen the movie will know that it isnt wise to cross the streams!
