FOOTBALLER OF THE YEAR 2
This game was released way back, in 1987 by Gremlin Graphics.  Suprisingly its the sequal to the earlier Footballer of the year, which was a good game but had a few flaws which stopped it being a great game.

This one aimed to get rid of those flaws and make a better game, and guess what, it did it!
The main aim of the game is to make your player the best in the world, unlike most other soccer games, you dont control a team, but just one player, this player can move between clubs, become a full international and score the winning goal in a cup final, but only if your good enough!

The game is played, using an icon driven main page, from here you can choose to go to the next week, request a transfer, gamble your hard earned cash or check your stats.
So here we go then, most people will instantly click on the next week option, this brings up a screen asking if you want to buy Goal cards, now Goal cards are invaluble peices of kit, these are the things that let you get into scoring positions etc.

You start the game with about ten of these, but you will want to buy more as they will soon run out, once youve bought some of these its time to move on to the next screen, this is where you choose how many you want to use in the next game,  they are lettered A - U and you can choose up to 3 per game.
Once you have picked your cards, its onto the tactics screen (Above) this shows you how the manager wants the set pieces to go, you must try to remember these, as they will come into play during the game.

The game itself is played as a couple of set pieces, this is where the actual playing comes in, you must get your player into the right possition to score the goals, this isnt as easy as it sounds and when you've got to remember 3 different set pieces can be quite difficult.
Other than scoring goals for fun, you will also have to score a certain amount of times in a game to get an international call up, or a transfer to a higher team.

Now what happens if you havent got enough goal cards?  well you could gamble a bit of your spare cash and see if you can earn a bit, this gambling bit is done in a multiple choice question bit, you have a set time to pick your answer and you can double your money, but you will need quite a good footballing brain as these questions relate back to 1987 and before.
The graphics, as you can see from the screenies, arnt that much to shout about, but they do what they need to, and the icon driven menu screen is years before its time.
