| At the time they said it couldnt be done, but surprisingly, it was done, and it was done well. This game should be known by any reader, due to its many different sequals and spin off games, but Sim City was the original tycoon type game. Created and designed by Chris Wright, who has since gone on to do the Sims and various other sim type games. |
| This Spectrum version was released about a year after the 16 bit versions, and keeps most of the features of the original. Ther main idea with this 'game' is to create a city, thats it, not a lot of scope for a game i hear you cry, but actually this recieved no end of press on release. As i said you must create a city, but you must also keep it running, whilst not wasting your money or upseting your residents. |
| This version of the game contains all of the features of the 16 bit versions, with an icon driven game screen, which you control by moving your arrow onto an icon and clicking, okay so there wasnt really any mouse to do this with, but it felt just as good with a joystick! Along the top of the screen you have a choice of various icons ranging from bulldozing or roads to seaports or airports. This is how you control your game, you click an icon then place the item on the main map screen. Very simple. |
| Through the years you will find that just building the city is not enough, and you will find that no one wants to come to your city as it has a major crime problem, so what do you do? Add a police station of course! Its all up to you. And there lies the fun of the game, basically the freedom to run the city as you would like, you could run it into the ground, or run it as you would like to live, the choice is yours. |
| Since this was released in 1989, the team behind it have gone from strength to strength, with each new release of sim City adding a lot of new ideas, but never really straying too far from this the original game. The team have also gone on to create the world famous 'The Sims' which has gone past famous and reached a new level in gaming terms. Thius game shows where the origins of probably the most famous game of the last ten years came from. |
