| EURO BOSS |
| This is one of a selection of Football Management type games released by Challenge Software.
In 1991, the management genre was a tad different from back in the earlier days, with a lot of the games being graphical based rather than text based, so it was quite nice to actually see another old school Football Management game. |
| This game was fairly unknown, with only the hardcore football gamers really paying attention to it, this was mainly due to the fact that there were tonnes of other games around which offered a lot of icon driven menues, or animated matches, which really pleased the less hardcore management fans. This game went back to the earlier text based menus, the difference here was how you chose options, instead of picking a number or letter, here you scrolled over the screen using up, down, left and right. |
| The main screen is nothing much to look at, in fact it can seem a bit dull, just look at the screenshots!
The game itself isnt quite as dull as this would suggest, and features a nice set of options that hadnt really been seen in many Football management games by this point, such as the ability to upgrade your stadium, and actually choose where the seating goes, you could also change ticket prices. |
| The main game features two divisions of 16 teams, all from the top of europe at the time, although player names are made up for this game, you can edit them yourself if you so wish.
The amount of options doesnt really make up for the game though as it does seem a bit shallow, and maybe a bit easy. |
| Some of the features in the game include the usual ability to buy and sell players, as well as a simple training routine, where you simply pick fitness or skill training.
Other than these normal features you also get the oppertunity to play around with the stadium, making it bigger, adding seats or standing areas, raising or lowering Ticket prices. A nice feature, although only really a cosmetic one, is the progress chart, which is such a simple thing it always seemed to be missing from these games. |
| The game does play fairly nicely, if a bit fast, and as with a lot of the later graphical based games it seems to lack a bit of depth and in the end is over way too quickly, with games running too quick, you really dont feel your part of the game.
The match itself is fairly similar to Challenge software's earlier game Treble Champions, although again it just doesnt have enough depth or detail to keep fans happy. |
| All that is on screen is a percentage of possession and the amount of goals scored, you really cant tell how your team is performing from all of this.
The scorelines dont always seem to be very realistic, although not really in the 6-0 realms, these still seem a bit off target. |
| I really wanted to like this game, and when i was younger I did, but as ive gotten older and played some of the more obscure management games i realise that this is only a cheap immitation, that lacks depth, feeling and Life, Three things that a football manager game really cant do without. |
| The only real saving grace is that some of the features are quite nice, and this was one of the first places to use these ideas, so in some weird way this is a close relative to the more modern Management games. |
