Chapter 15
{The
Vine (Jesus) and the Branches (Mankind)}
1~~
"I {Jesus} keep on being
the
True/Trustworthy/'Revealed by Truth' {alethinos} grapevine
and
My Father keeps on being the gardener/farmer."
{Note: God the Father was the planner. In this parable, He is the farmer because He is the One Who planned the 'garden'. The interesting thing about this analogy, is that the grapevine wraps around the branches of the plant. The grapevine holds the sap (bible doctrine) that feeds the branches. But it is the branch from which the grapes actually are produced. This parable is about branches producing divine good or not.}
{Branch
IN Me = Believers - Carnal and Fruitful - Experiential Cleansing of
the Branch}}
2~~"Every
branch in Me
that
does not bear fruit {divine good production}
{being in Union with Christ but means this is a carnal believer}
He
{God the Father} cuts off {sin unto death}.
Every
branch that bears fruit {divine good production}
He
{God the Father} {habitually} 'prunes'/'purifies' {kathairo}
for
the purpose that it will bear more fruit {divine good
production}."
{Note: Kathairo has two meanings - to prune off unproductive shoots so production can increase. It also means 'to purify'. And, both are the 'double' meaning here. It order to produce divine good, you must be filled with God the Holy Spirit. That is the continuous use of I John 1:9 to purify you of your sins and be back in fellowship. Then God can produce divine good through you.}
{Positional
Cleansing of the Branch}
3~~"You
keep on being clean already
because
of the Word/Logos
that
I have communicated/taught {laleo}
-
in the past with results that last forever - to you."
4~~"Abide/dwell/Remain
in Me,
and
I {Jesus} . . . {will abide/dwell/remain} in you.
Just
as the branch does not have the power to bear fruit
from
the ultimate source of itself,
unless
- maybe it will, maybe it will not -
abides/dwells/Remains
in the vine {spirit filled life}
so
neither can you {produce divine good}
unless
you remain in Me {in fellowship}."
{No
Divine Good Production Outside of Being In Fellowship}
5~~
"I {Jesus} keep on being the vine.
You
. . . {keep on being} the branches
{believers in union with Christ}.
The
one who remains in Me - and I in him -
the
same 'brings forth'/bears much fruit {divine good production}.
For
apart from Me, you have the power
to
produce absolutely nothing {no divine good production}."
{Note: Anything ordained by God that an unbeliever does is still 'human good' and not rewardable by God. Anything ordained by God that the believer does when out of fellowship, again is 'human good'/'wood, hay and stubble' and is burned away and not rewardable. Anything ordained by God that a believer does IN fellowship - allowing God the Holy Spirit to work through him - is God's production produced through you - and is gold, silver and precious stones - all rewardable for eternity - you bring glory to the Lord by allowing His Will to be done through you His representative on earth.}
{The
Case of the Pseudo-Branch - The Person Who Acts like a follower of
Christ but is Really An Unbeliever (Only God knows this)}
6~~"If
anyone does not abide/dwell/Remain in Me
{no union with Christ - an unbeliever probably a 'religious' one
pretending to believe in Christ},
he
is cast outside like a branch, and dries up,
and
they {angels} gather them up
and
throw them into the fire,
and
they receive burning {lake of fire judgment on unbelievers}.
7~~"If
you abide in Me {filling of the Holy Spirit}
-
maybe you will, maybe you will not -
and
My Words/doctrine abide in you {doctrine resident in your soul}
-
maybe it will abide in you, maybe it will not -
{but
if both are true} ASK . . .
if
you will/desire {command - ask for your need}
and
it will be done for you."
8~~"In
this {filling of the Spirit + doctrine in the soul + asking =
His doing for you}
My
Father keeps on being glorified/honored,
that
you bear much fruit {production of divine good}
and
you shall 'become what you were not before' {ginomai}
my
disciples/'indoctrinated ones' {mathetes}."
{Note: Mathetes means 'indoctrinated ones'. It also is in the female gender. This is because God is the 'Right Man' in the relationship. He initiates the relationship with doctrine. The disciple is the 'Right Woman' in the relationship and responds to her Right Man and takes in doctrine. And, that is what a disciple is. Someone who is interested in her Right Man (God) and takes in His Word to the point of inculcation.}
9~~
"According as the Father loved Me,
so
have I {Jesus} loved you all.
Abide
in My love."
{Note: And as we have seen, you can only abide in the love of Jesus by being in fellowship and taking in the Word on a consistent basis.}
{Capacity
to Love Jesus}
10~~"If
you keep/'guard as belonging to you' {tereo}
My
commandments/doctrines
-maybe
you will, maybe you will not -
you
will abide in My love {agape}.
Just
as I have kept/'guarded as belonging to Me' {tereo}
My
Father's commandments/doctrines
and
abide in His love {agape}."
{Why
Must you Keep God First in your Life?} {Sharing the Happiness
of
God Comes from Doctrine Resident in your Soul}
11~~"These
things {principals of bible doctrine stated above}
I
{Jesus} have communicated/taught {laleo} to you
for
the purpose that My 'inner happiness' {chara}
might
keep on being in you,
and
your 'inner happiness' might receive completion {pleroo}.
{Note: Pleroo means 1) fill up a deficiency, 2) to fully possess, 3) fully influence, 4)fill with a certain quality. All really apply here.}
12~~"This
keeps on being
My
commandment/order/decree {no change}
that
you keep on loving {agapao}
one
another of the same kind {allelon - meaning fellow believers}
-
maybe you will, maybe you will not -
even
as I have loved {agapao} you
-
in the past with results that last forever."
{Verses
13-17: Inner Happiness In times of Friendship}
13~~"
No one constantly keeps having and holding
greater
love than this . . .
that
one would 'put down'/'lay down' his soul
'on
behalf of'/'as a substitute for' {hupo} his friends {philos}."
{Note: This verse of course is referring to the sacrifice Jesus Christ was willing to make for all humanity - to die spiritually on the cross (afterward He dismissed His spirit and physically died also).}
{Note: Philos is those with whom you have a relationship - total capacity for a relationship in the soul. Jesus will tell us that this capacity is only developed through doctrine resident in your soul - and it is only a potential - not every believer really loves Jesus.}

14~~"You
keep on being My friends {philos}
if
you keep on doing My 'detailed orders'/decrees {entellomai}
-
maybe you will, maybe you will not.
15~~"No
longer do I keep on calling you all 'slaves' {doulos},
because
the slave
does
not 'have inherent knowledge'/understand {oida}
what
his master is doing.
But
I have declared/named you friends,
for
everything I have learned
'from
the immediate source of' {para} My Father
I
have revealed/'made clearly understood' to you
-
for your advantage."
{Note: Doulos is the Greek word for slaves and is also used for servant, but here is slave. A slave is never told WHY he should do something the owner needs. He just does it because he is a slave with no comprehension as to what is going on. But Jesus is teaching the disciples doctrine - the 'why' we need to follow His detailed orders. Then when you do it, you do it because you WANT to do it for your friend. A person who keeps on studying the Mind of Christ, keeps on being the friend of Christ.}
{Lord
Straightens Out All Slaves}
16~~"You
did not choose Me {Jesus},
but
I have chosen you - for My benefit -
and
appointed you
for
the purpose that
you
should 'go under the authority' {hupago- authority of God}
and
may produce fruit {production of divine good}
and
your fruit may abide/remain {meno}
-
maybe you will produce fruit, maybe you will not -
in
order that whatever you ask the Father
in
My Name He may give you
-
maybe you will ask, maybe you will not."
{Note: Meno here does mean to 'abide' or remain. It is in the subjunctive mood meaning it is potential. But if you do produce any divine good, it is rewarded in heaven, even if you later slip into reversionism.}
17~~"These
things {bible doctrine taught by Jesus}
I
'ordered in detail'/'decreed to' {entellomai} you . . .
with
the result that you love {agape} one another of the same kind."
{Verses
18-27: Inner Happiness In times of Hostility - Reasons for Hostility
toward you} {1st Reason - the Cosmos Hates Christ}
18~~"If
the cosmos/world 'intensely hates' {miseo} you
-
and it does hate you {1st class condition} -
you
all 'know from study and observation' {ginosko}
that
it hated Me first/'before you'.
{Note: Miseo is an interesting Greek Word. Most Greek words have to be compounds to be intense. But this is a very intensive yet non-compound verb and is the strongest Greek verb for hate. Cosmos means the world in three senses - all of which are antagonistic to Christ (and His followers in the Church Age): 1) as a system of organized thought 2)satanic organizations 3) as unbelievers.}
{2nd
Reason - You Rejected the Systematic Thinking of the Cosmos}
19~~"If
you kept on belonging to the cosmos/world
-
but you did not keep on belonging to the cosmos -
the
cosmos/world would keep on having
'rapport
love {phileo} for you . . .
as
its own {the cosmos loves those similar to them!}.
But
- because you are not of the cosmos/world . . .
instead,
I {Jesus} have chosen you
out
of the cosmos/world -
the
world keeps on hating you."
{3rd
Reason - Master is Rejected so will the Slave be Rejected}
20~~"Keep
on remembering/'keep on calling to mind what you have learned' the
Logos/Word/doctrine that I said {lego} to you,
'A
slave is not greater than his master/lord {kurios}.'
If
they {those in the cosmos with negative volition}
persecuted
Me {Jesus}
-
and at points in time these did persecute Me -
they
will also persecute you.
If
they {those in the cosmos with latent positive volition}
'guarded
what belonged to them'/obeyed {tereo}
My
Logos/Word/Doctrine
-
and these did guard My doctrine {1st class condition} -
they
will 'guard what belongs to them'/obey {tereo}
yours
too."
{4th
Reason - Cosmic System Is Ignorant of the Plan of God}
21~~"But
all these things
{all Cosmos does to exalt Satan and oppose God}
they
will do to you
because
of My Name's sake {believers in Christ are the target of
Satan in the Church Age},
because
they do not 'have inherent knowledge in their souls' {eido} of . . .
{God the Father} having sent Me."
22~~"If
I {Jesus} had not come
and
communicated/taught {laleo} unto them,
they
would not have the awareness of the sin {the Old Sin Nature}.
But
they no longer have any 'cover' {prophasis}
for
their sin {Old Sin Nature}.
{Note: Prophasis is the Greek word for your outer clothing - a robe. Here it is a idiom meaning to have a 'cover' hiding their sin. He calls them 'white washed tombstones' meaning they are dead on the inside and walk around putting on an air of 'cleanliness' because they pray shouting on a street corner or give alms to the poor. He came and explained the purpose of the Mosaic Law. Now they have no excuse. We ALL need a savior for salvation!}
23~~"The
one keeping on intensely hating {miseo} Me {Jesus}
keeps
on intensely hating {miseo} My Father also."
24~~"If
I {Jesus} had not performed among them
the
works/'miraculous deeds' that no one else did
-
but I did do the miraculous deeds -
they
would not be having and holding {awareness}
of
the sin {the Old Sin Nature}.
But
now they have they both
had
a panoramic view {horao}{of the deeds}
and
keep on intensely hating both Me and My Father.
{5th
Reason - Cosmic System Hates Believer because it was Prophesized to
Be so}
25~~"But
that the Word/Logos/Doctrine {Old Testament}
might
receive fulfillment {pleroo}
that
it is written in their {Mosaic} Law {like Psalm 69:4, 35:19},
'They
hated Me without cause/reason {no basis for hatred}.'

26~~"When
the Encourager/Paraclete {parakletos}
comes
{Advent of Church Age},
Whom
I will send you from the immediate source of the Father . . .
even
'the Spirit of Truth/Doctrine' . . .
{operational title having to do with making True doctrine clear}
Who
proceeds/'goes out' from the immediate source of the Father,
He
{God the Holy Spirit}
will
make a deposition/witness/testify {martureo} concerning Me."

27~~"And
you
{disciples
- but includes every believer in the Church Age}
will
also make a deposition/witness/testify {martureo},
because
you have kept on being with Me from the beginning."
{Note: This verse is specifically referring to Jesus' disciples. But, they perpetuated the concept though teaching Church Age believers.}
