Fantastic Four
trailer
Thoughts:
Oooooh!  I can't wait!

Yes, this is really me.  I haven't been abducted and replaced by a squeeing fangirl.  You all know I like hero movies.  Come on, take a gander at the movies
I've reviewed.  Notice a trend?  Just nod.

This is one of the few comic book-based movies where I haven't read the comic before seeing the movie.  Yes, I used to read comics.  Not as much as some, but I did used to read them.  I'm really going to need my Dad (who DID used to read the comic) during this one, but I can't drive
home to see it with him.  *sniffle*

The main draw (for me) is no stranger to
hero stories.  He should look familiar from something a little farther back, too.  ;-)  Ioan is one of the few actors who I will go see whatever he is in, no matter if the plot interests me on first glance or not.  The guy has great taste in material.  Any movie he's in is interesting and well-written.  I trust Ioan.  I'm just going to have to get used to him with an American accent.

I've been watching Michael Chiklis's
stuff since I was very wee.  Blame that on Dad, too.  Michael was good before but now that he has The Shield on his belt and on his mantle, he's probably great now.

Jessica Alba usually
annoys the hell out of me, but she might be tolerable in this movie.  Susan Storm seems like a cool character, so I see why Jessica said yes to playing her.

I don't know much about Chris Evans except that he's a year younger than me, which is very weird.  I'm starting to get as old as the heartthrobs and that's a very scary prospect.  Anyway, just from the trailer,
Johnny Storm sounds like every guy my age I know.  He's hilarious, but watch the character very carefully and see why I'm still single.

Oh yeah.  Just running through the plethora of trailers has me hyped for this movie.  Is it Friday yet?

Afterthoughts:
Hee!  Sweeeeeeeet.

So, it took a while for me to get used to Ioan with an American accent.  Well, actually, I never got used to it, but I went with it.  Speaking of, he should think about keeping the
gray highlights from the movie.  They make him look distinguished.

Everyone was awesome in this movie, right down to the
mailman.  They didnt go enough in to the history of the groups previous relationships, but you can only do so much in 2 hours.  Wanting to know the backstories of the characters is a good sign.  It means the characters are interesting enough for people to want to know more.  People wanting to know more means sequels which makes studios very happy.

You would think that, being a girl, my favorite parts would involve the romance between Sue Storm and Reed Richards.  Granted, I would trade places with Sue in a heartbeat, but the imploring looks and sexual tension with Reed couldnt compare with Flameboys
harassment of Ben Grimm.  Those two were a hoot!  From snipping at each other like 13-year-olds to practical jokes, Johnny and Ben had a great brotherly dynamic.  Id pay money just to watch those guys for two hours.

I could completely relate to Reed, the resident geek.  Hes totally oblivious to everything except his science.  Geeky and loveable...those are the best kind of guys.

BenBen you just want to hug from the word go.  Its sad that his girlfriend who promised to be with him forever, no matter what, bailed the minute she saw him after his transformation.  Whats even sadder is that the writers hooked him up with a blind woman afterward.  Im all for him finding someone new, but its sad that the writers feel that a person who can see him wouldnt be able to see beyond the rocky exterior to the person within.  I dont know if thats the writers being formulaic or making a sad statement on humanity.

Sue was disappointing.  I thought she was supposed to be an astrophysicist of some kind, but she didnt display any scientific thought processes except to figure out that it was the radiation storm that caused their mutations.  Evidently, attending
MIT in the Marvel Universe gives women a fantastic grasp on the obvious.  Thank God I got my degree at the University of Kansas and not there.

Johnny is a jackass.  A loveable jackass, but a jackass nonetheless.  How is he loveable you ask?  No, its not just because hes cute,  Geez, how shallow do you people think I am?!  He may have spent half of the movie gallivanting around and showing off, but he also sheltered a girl in a car wreck from a massive fireball, diverted a heat-seeking missile from the
Baxter Building, and played an integral part in the demise of Dr. Doom.  Id say that makes him pretty loveable.

The plot is very basic, but it works since Joe Blow probably knows less about the Fantastic Four than he knows about
wormhole theory.  The Fantastic Four is one of those comics that lots of people have heard of, but few have ever read.  Few over the age of 30, at least.  The plot details how the Four came to be, the origins of Dr. Doom, and the first showdown between the two.  They even used science to defeat Doom, which was a hoot.  Personally, I would have used the supercooling machine that Doom was using on Reed so that he would crack and shatter from the thermal stress, but then we wouldnt leave the door open for a sequel.  Im not complaining, but since Dr. Doom has been quenched, Im not sure how Dooms minion is going to animate him again, but Ill be interested in seeing it.
My Advice:
You HAVE to see it.  The bigger the screen, the better.  If you have an afternoon to kill and are really in to hero movies, have a double-header with Batman Begins.  Between those two movies, youll never be satisfied by another hero movie again.
