Radio Kurtodrome 88: Best of Pukkelpop / Lowlands
One week ago the Flemish went to Pukkelpop while the Dutch went to Lowlands. Two festivals with so many bands one can't even name the stages the artists appeared on. Rather than reviewing the bands, we wanted to point out 4 bands you may or may not have heard from. True, one of the best concerts on Saturday was by The Raveonettes, but audio proof of them is scarce. So we couldn't fit them in here (they deserved it though). Here are four highlights from the weekend that was. (All the streams are provided by the VPRO and come from the Lowlands festival.)

SONS AND DAUGHTERS - Live at Lowlands 2005 (stream: 56 min)
Do not mind the crazy Dutch guy who announces the band and feel free to fast forward the first 100 seconds of this stream (it's a shitty announcement). Why are Sons and Daughters here? Because they had some technical problems during their Pukkelpop concert: their most famous song, "Johnny Cash", was muddled by that, but the 3 songs from The Repulsion Box they played afterwards made up for it. Still, let's give these Glaswegians a bit more revenge with this stream of their concert.

THE ARCADE FIRE - Live at Lowlands 2005 (stream: 56 min)
Seven Canadians on stage. They performed on Friday night around 10pm. We were home, the computer was streaming festival concerts and we were ready for dinner. The Arcade Fire made us postpone dinner for an hour. Before you click the link, make sure you're not preparing food. You might forget about it.

VIVA VOCE - Live at Lowlands 2005 (stream: 43 min)
Have been mentioned on the Kurtodrome site before (recently as a Video of the Week), but The Heat Can Melt Your Brain is a really nice album and this couple (they're married) performed at Pukkelpop around noon: hence (literally) 50 people when they came on stage. The crowd was easily drawn to the stage because of their nice music, but still a lot of people missed their concert. Hence their presence here.

TOM VEK - Live at Lowlands 2005 (stream: 41 min)
And finally Tom Vek. Tom Vek is British, his album is called We Have Sound and we totally missed him, but heard good things. So let us discover him together, you and I, and make a rendez-vous for RK89 in 10 days or so.
