Radio Kurtodrome 87
30 minutes. Three streams. Three downloads.
STARS -
Ageless Beauty (D)
We found this download on download.com, possibly the best name ever given to a music site. The biography intrigued us: "By all accounts, the process of creating Set Yourself On Fire, Stars' third full-length album for Arts & Crafts, home to their dear friends and sometime collaborators and bandmates Broken Social Scene -- played like scenes from The Shining." And we all know there's nothing wrong with processes compared to horror films!
MAGNAPOP - Smile4u
(D)
Magnapop are back and they'll even come to Antwerp on September 2. Let's celebrate with a download. We would like to point out that the current Magnapop is only half the Magnapop of the 90s and that this particular song only gave us half the joy of the old Magnapop. How about half a cheer then?
LCD SOUNDSYSTEM - Losing My Edge (stream)
I don't know how, but I'm losing my edge. The kids are coming up behind me, I can hear their footsteps. They'll be raving on the festivals. LCD Soundsystem will be coming to Pukkelpop on August 20. (I'll promise not to hurt my foot this year and have my revenge after missing them last year.) Fun fact: when this was released, the VPRO dubbed it "not hip, but cool". Now they're both.
DRACULAZOMBIEUSA - I Like The Snow (D)
DraculaZombieUSA have an eponymous debut album out. They changed their name to this after they had a dispute with a law firm over their original name.
OUT HUD - How Long (D)
Three years ago we mentioned a song called "Dad, There's a Little Phrase Called Too Much Information" in our blog. The band responsible for that song, Out Hud, has now released an album called Let Us Never Speak of It Again on the Kranky label. Due to lots of technical problems this is also the last song in this episode of Radio Kurtodrome. We'll have our revenge next time.
