Radio Kurtodrome 84
To quote someone: "It may be summer out there, but in our hearts it's winter." Follow us on a 33-minutes-long trip of honesty, melancholy (positive and negative) and post-rock. 33 minutes of brooding music, completely downloadable.
ANTONY & THE JOHNSONS - Cripple and the Starfish (D)
Haven't read about Antony & The Johnsons? Then surely you haven't picked up a music magazine this year. We believe we have to thank Lou Reed for broadening Antony's audience, but surely the man himself could've done it all by himself (though it probably would've taken longer). If you want to know more about Antony & The Johnsons... open a random music magazine of the past months.
SOUTH-SAN GABRIEL - The Dark of the Garage (D)
South San Gabriel’s new full-length album The Carlton Chronicles: Not Until The Operation’s Through has been released courtesy of Misra (US), Munich Records (Europe) and Houston Party Records (Spain). The whole record’s written from the standpoint of a cat, and involves themes of struggle, triumph, isolation, cohabitation and such. This release includes all Centro-matic members, as well as Brent Best, Howard Draper, Matthew Stoessel and Bryan VanDivier. South San Gabriel will be touring the USA and Europe (incl. Belgium's monumental festival Pukkelpop) soon.
TIMESBOLD - Gin I Win (D)
Here's a song we always thought had been on Radio Kurtodrome before, but apparently we're wrong. So here we are, highly needing to catch up with a very nice song by the wonderful band Timesbold. (I hope the plug and sucking up will suffice for our inexcusable lateness.)
FROM MONUMENT TO MASSES - To Z (Repeat)
(D)
In a way it's a giant step from the positive melancholy of Timesbold to the post-rock of From Monument To Masses, but then again, FMTM have released an album with the title The Impossible Leap in 100 Simple Steps. Step 1: pretend you don't understand English (because you just know how positive a song is that starts with "I call to the dead"). Step 2-99: let yourself glide on the umpteen genre changes. Step 100: fait accompli!
CALLA - Strangler (D)
This sounds disturbingly like another song, so we hope Calla didn't get into trouble with this song. Because we like Calla. Calla's new album will be called Collisions and will be released in September in the US and early 2006 in Europe. Which really makes you wonder: why - considering it takes only a week for an imported cd to get shipped from America to Belgium - do we always have to wait ages before American independents (be it film or music) is released over here? Do they hire people to swim the stuff to here?
ILSE LAU - Schummelnone (D)
Ilse Lau are from Bremen (Germany) and Tjeempie.De Kat is released on Fidel Bastro. And just to prove you how good we are: we actually bothered to go and look for the name of this MP3 (other sites don't give a title or merely give the title of the album). Yes, we got tired of waiting for your compliments and decided to blow our own horn. More trumpetting in 10 days. Auf Wiedersehen!
