Radio Kurtodrome 71
Over 30 minutes of online music and every track is legally downloadable. On this 71st edition we'll go from Japan to Sweden, find Belgian songs in Canada and range from deadpan electro to downright camp. Enjoy!
SUBURBAN KIDS WITH BIBLICAL NAMES - Rent A Wreck (D)
As you probably noticed every regular feature on the Kurtodrome site skipped one update, even this one. Missed us? With one song we'll prove that wasn't necessary at all: these guys are from Sweden and they pom-pom a lot.
JENS LEKMAN - You are the light (D)
Jens Lekman's debut album is called When I Said I Wanted To Be Your Dog. But do you think she appreciates that? No. Do you think she's impressed by the fact that the arrested Lekman uses his one telephone call to request a song for her on the radio? No. Women!
TO ROCOCO ROT - Testfeld (D)
Happy birthday to you, Kitty Yo. One of the most interesting European labels is currently celebrating ten years of glorious existence. Weirdly enough with a treat for you: here's a download.
MEIKO KAJI - Urami Bushi (D)
Ah, fansites! Meiko Kaji's offers a wide arrange of downloads, proving the wonderful actress was a singer too. If this sounds familiar, you've either followed our advice to see all the movies with Meiko Kaji (Female Convict Scorpion, Lady Snowblood, ...) or you've been exposed to "Kill Bill" or its soundtrack. More on Meiko Kaji soon.
MELON GALIA - Jamais Je Ne Mens (D)
Hailed on this site as the Belgian answer to Belle and Sebastian and extremely neglected, it took a visit to a Canadian label to find a download of this Belgian band. "Les embarras du quotidien" was first released in France (Disques Mange-Tout) and in Japan (Pi-Vine Records) in 2001. The album was finally released in North America in 2003 through Grenadine Records. Melon Galia are Thierry De Brouwer (vocals, guitar, bass, organ, percussions), Aurlie Muller (vocals, bass, groove box, melodica) and Samir Barris (drums, percussions, guitar, backup vocals).
THE AMERICAN ANALOG SET - White House (D)
That The American Analog Set offers downloads for a limited time should be known by now. This is the third time such a song has been included on a Radio Kurtodrome session. Right now the AmAnSet are offering a session track recorded for BBC Across The Line. It's good, but did you expect anything else?
PAVEMENT - All My Friends (D)
Matador dug up a previously unreleased Pavement track and wouldn't we be bad people if we weren't to include it in one of our editions? So here it is.
THE DRESDEN DOLLS - Girl Anachronism (D)
"You can tell from the state of my room that they me out too soon." A few editions ago we promised to plug some more Dresden Dolls and this felt like a good time to do so. More from Radio Kurtodrome in ten days. Enjoy yourselves!
