Radio Kurtodrome (gets its kicks on edition) 66
Sorry about that pun. Another memorable edition: for the first time a band will manage to appear for the sixth time on Radio Kurtodrome. Find out who it is and enjoy the rest of the music too. (If you see (D) after a song title, it means you can download the MP3. If you don't, it's a stream.)
LAIKA - Falling Down
A few years ago Laika got lots of promotion on this site. We first checked to see if "Falling Down" could be part of this edition (right after Ikara Colt), but that didn't work out. And in the final seconds before RK66 went online we found out we couldn't use our original choice for an opening track. It may not be the best transition to go from Laika to Solex, but bear in mind this was a hellish edition to compile, so be gentle and enjoy Laika.
SOLEX - Honkey Donkey
Solex is back! Things have changed: no more support by a major label and live Solex will become a duo: Elizabeth herself and Caesar's ex-drummer. Another change: Solex sampled more male voices this time. The Laughing Stock of Indie Rock may still be Solex, but not as we knew it.
THE FIERY FURNACES - Straight Street (D)
Five editions ago we mentioned Eleanor's ex-job. Well, that's what you get with siblings in the band: her brother Matt thought it'd better mentioned in the bio (because otherwise someone would find out anyway), but Eleanor finds it annoying: being a telemarketer for the Republicans was only a temp job, one she gave up after a couple of weeks because she is not a Republican. Which is why we selected another track by The Fiery Furnaces: to get the story straight. And by the way, what an eclectic song we've chosen, eh?
GIRLS AGAINST BOYS - Disco Six Six Six (D)
Anyone a classic track? The disco you get when you add a six to the number of this edition. Good old GVSB from the album House of GVSB.
THE FAINT - Worked Up So Sexual (D)
Yes yes, there's a new album by The Faint out. But that's no reason to forget the older stuff. From Blank-Wave Arcade this is "Worked Up So Sexual".
IKARA COLT - Don't They Know (D)
Fans of all things statistic could've worked out that by edition 65 five bands had appeared five times on Radio Kurtodrome. Those bands: Spinvis, Ladytron, Bright Eyes, Under Byen and Ikara Colt. Ladytron was the first to get there (by edition 43) and Under Byen the fastest (in only 24 editions). The first to break the Five Edition Limit barrier is... Ikara Colt. Congratulations and what a nice song we've picked. (We should mention none of this was planned: we accidently stumbled on this whilst making this edition.)
DENALI - Hold Your Breath (D)
Actually, it was this Denali track we wanted to include last time, but the other track sounded better along the rest of the playlist. Never mind, it's always nice to have Denali around.
THE DRESDEN DOLLS - Coin Operated Boy (D)
Far worse than Denali, we couldn't find a Radio Kurtodrome that was able to include this delightful oddity. Relatively unknown by edition 61 (when we discovered them) the web of hype has started spinning ever since. So finally... here they are, The Dresden Dolls. We'll see you next time!
