Radio Kurtodrome 65
33,3 minutes of Radio Kurtodrome is what we have in stall for you. From new tracks by The Faint to a Romeo Void classic, Radio Kurtodrome is the name, being eclectic the game. (If you see (D) after a song title, it means you can download the MP3. If you don't, it's a stream.)

CALLA - Astral (D)
Astral Recordings, the label that released Televise (of which this is a track), had this to say about the band: "Calla's shows are some of the most anticipated in New York. It is impossible to watch them perform without becoming transfixed on the intensity of its presentation. Angular guitars bend across thick bass lines; weightless electronics become pulled into the harsh simplicity of minimalist percussion".

UNDER BYEN - Legesag (D)
Things one should know about Under Byen: 1) Under Byen is not pronounced Under Byen, but rather like a combination of the Italian word "una" and the German "Bahn". 2) Howe Gelb of Giant Sand spent the summer 2002 in Aarhus and went to see Under Byen at a local venue. This meeting let to the collaboration, which can be heard on Gelbs solo album The Listener (2003, Thrill Jockey) where Under Byen is backing band on 6 songs and 1 tune where Henriette Sennenvaldt sings duet with Gelb. 3) Henriette sings a duet with Vic Chestnutt on the new Giant Sand album.

GUIDED BY VOICES - Gonna Never Have To Die (D)
Robert Pollard had always said that the first Guided By Voices album he'd really like would be the band's last album. Sadly for the fans, Mr Pollard is quite pleased with Half Smiles Of The Decomposed, so that's all folks. Making "Gonna Never Have To Die" the most ironic title of this Radio Kurtodrome.

INTERPOL - Untitled (Velapene Screen Remix) (D)
Guided and Interpol are label mates, which is how we got to this link. It's Interpol, but not as we know them.

DENALI - The Instinct (D)
Ever since we included Denali in one of our Democratische 99s, we've liked the band, but it was something we didn't prove enough. So, as some sort of a mea culpa, here's what label Jade Tree has to say about them: "Denali began in Richmond, VA in April 2000 when Maura Davis approached her older brother and Engine Down singer/guitarist Keeley Davis with the idea of fleshing out some songs that she had been working on. Keeley enlisted the help of E.D. bandmate and former Sleepytime Trio drummer Jonathan Fuller, and was followed shortly thereafter by guitarist Cam DiNunzio, longstanding member of Richmond's musical community. The name Denali is taken from the Athapascan name for Alaska's Mount McKinley, the highest mountain in North America. The meaning is fairly obvious: cold, remotely desolate, permanent... something the band felt pertained rather well to the sound they were stumbling upon. What surprises most people about Denali is the fact that singer, multi-instrumentalist, and primary songwriter Maura Davis, is somewhat of a newcomer."

THE FAINT - I Disappear (D)
And a nice and polite 'Welcome back!" to The Faint. This is a track from their brand new album Wet From Birth (out on Saddle Creek).

IKARA COLT - At The Lodge (D)
And from The Faint to Ikara Colt may not look like a logical step, but when we listened to both tracks, it just clicked. (This MP3 is courtesy of Insound.)

ROMEO VOID - Never Say Never
QotSA's song on The Punisher OST is highly controversial: the other songs on the soundtrack are more mainstream crap (Nickleback etc), so people who like the other bands tend not to like the QotSA song and QotSA fans may hate the other tracks. Excellent. "Never Say Never" isn't a QotSA track, but a Romeo Void cover. We found the original on the Slave to the Wave site and decided this had to be in a Radio Kurtodrome. Maybe a good song to end an edition with. And indeed... see you soon.
