Radio Kurtodrome 63
And now for the 63rd time: Radio Kurtodrome. Half an hour of web music. This selection of two streams and several downloads (D) relies heavily on beats, but don't worry, we'll end the edition with our tongue firmly in our cheek. And you want to know what's even better? This edition is 33 minutes long (23 minutes of music and ten minutes of oddities). Enjoy it very much!
TERRORGRUPPE SCHWARZENRABEN - Revolution (D)
From the Terrorgruppe Manifesto: "We are Terrorgruppe Schwarzenraben. We are unhappy with the state of the world and want to change it for the better. Our ideas are based on the notion that if you want change you have to act revolutionary. Being revolutionary means you have to oppose the mainstream forces in society. [...] We, the Terrorgruppe Schwarzenraben, try to get our message across in the most effective and most universal language known to us: music. It's our goal to reach the masses with reasonably good music in order to create a platform where we can get our message of 'moderation' across to a sizable part of the population in Germany and, who knows, the world." T.S. features Richard Cameron.
BLACK STROBE - The Abwehr Disco
People who checked out RK59 as soon as it was online may have noticed Black Strobe's presence, but we changed the show to get a better flow. Now, RK62, Black Strobe is back and here to stay. "The Abwehr Disco" is the B-side to the single "Chemical Sweet Girl".
SOLDOUT - Taste of Candy (D)
New from Belgium, it's Charlotte and David, a.k.a. Soldout. So far the album is only available in Belgium, but maybe distributors Anorak Supersport and Bang can sort you out. Soldout's debut album Stop Talking also features the ace single "I Don't Want To Have Sex With You".
SPILLSBURY - Jona (D)
"Kurz vor Vier" was featured in our Democratische 99 of 2003. When that song was a single for German poprock duo Spillsbury, "Jona" was used as a B-side.
THE FAINT - Glass Danse (D)
What the [insert your favourite four-letter-word here]!? Why did this song never make it to Radio Kurtodrome? There's no excuse. You can find this on the album Danse Macabre (which also produced the equally excellent "Agenda Suicide", see RK5). If you live in Europe, check your local concert guides as The Faint will hit the continent in September.
LCD SOUNDSYSTEM - Give It Up
You gotta give it up if you wanna live it up... Yeah, but why is it so damn hard to find any audio evidence of LCD Soundsystem on the web? For now this stream (courtesy of VPRO) will have to do.
FRANZ FERDINAND - Tell Her Tonight (Paul Sings) (D)
With thanks to record company Domino for putting this online... oder sollen wir Domino danken? Yes, it's Paul (and not Alex) who sings this version of "Tell Her Tonight" and he's the one who speaks German. So we won't tell her tonight, aber ich werde alles sagen heut'nacht.
HARD'N'PHIRM - Rodeohead (D)
Okay, now that our tongue is already firmly implanted in our cheek, let's finish this edition with Hard'n'Phirm and a song called 'Rodeohead'. That's all we'll say about this song (except that you should definitely download it).
HONOR BLACKMAN & PATRICK MACNEE - Kinky Boots (D)
Allegedly recorded when Avengers stars Blackman (James Bond's Pussy Galore and the actress who was Diana 'Emma Peel' Rigg's predecessor) and Macnee (well, he is John Steeds, isn't he?) had a bit of spare time. Lots of fun for those who liked the genuine oddness of the series, but not always pleasant for the ears. Still, quite kinky for the early 60s. (I found this on the Quite Quite Fantastic Avengers Site.) That's it for this edition, we'll be back in 10 days. Arrividerci.
