Radio Kurtodrome 60
Radio Kurtodrome is back with half an hour of online music. Streams and downloads (D) are up for grabs. This time we played it a bit louder. Enjoy.

KRUST - Proof
One of Rock Herk's headliners was DJ Krust and his skillful combinations of drum'n'bass and jungle. With "Proof" we give you seven minutes of what you've probably missed.

THEO MAASSEN - Doodsbedreiging [OFFLINE]
Dutch rap? No, a protest song. Three Dutch MCs have been arrested because they made a rap song in which they threatened to kill a Dutch politician. The woman complained and had the rappers arrested. Whereas Radio Kurtodrome believes the rap was in such poor taste it wouldn't have been a bad thing if those rappers had been arrested for tastelessness, we don't think (along with Theo Maassen) there is a connection between a rap song and the actual killing of somebody (Eminem springs to mind). Some Dutch rappers wrote a protest rap about this incident, but this song was written and performed by a controversial comedian. Proving once again that bad acts (the original rap) can spawn interesting reactions (this protest song). We understand that a minimal understanding of Dutch is necessary to appreciate this, but occasionally we just feel like being topical. (This stream is offered by the VARA network.)

SIX. BY SEVEN - I.O.U. Love (D)
A Kurtodrome classic, old enough never to have made it into Radio Kurtodrome. You can find this track on The Way I Feel Today, but don't forget to check out their debut EP 88-92-96. Six. By Seven have been working on a new album, which will be released in the autumn of 2004.

BRIGHT EYES - Touch (D)
And speaking of older tunes: we still have ambivalent feelings about Bright Eyes, but this is another song we like. You can find it on Letting Off The Happiness, released on Saddle Creek Records.

MARK LANEGAN BAND - Methamphetamine Blues
You won't have to wait that long for Mark Lanegan's new album: Bubblegum will be released in August. One Joshua Homme plays lead guitar on this track.

IKARA COLT - Sink Venice (D)
Ikara Colt are from London and have been on Radio Kurtodrome before (check the alphabet for details). This is an older song (their new album is called Modern Apprentice), but it's a good one. Last weekend Ikara Colt were in Belgium to play at the Rock Herk and Dour festivals and - despite all their problems (at Herk) - proved they were worth our bother.

eX-GIRL - Pretty You Ugly (D)
A month ago we promised you more by eX-Girl and, lookie here, we kept our word. This is another MP3 taster of what there is to be found on eX-Girl's new album Endangered Species.

THE RIPLETS - Hey Mickey (D)
Biographical information tells us that "The Riplets is an all-girl punkrockband from Rotterdam and it has existed since 1998. The band members are: Janneke (bass guitar and lead vocals), Valesca (drums and backing vocals), Allison (guitar and backing vocals) and Alice (organ and tambourine)." You can find this cover on their album Love Special Delivery Boy (we think Toni Basil was responsible for the original way back in the 80s). Anyway, that's it for this edition. Stay tuned: we'll be back in 10 days.
