Radio Kurtodrome 57
Radio Kurtodrome is back with more than half an hour of online music. Some are streams, most are downloads (D). Feast your ears on this selection...
SONIC YOUTH - I Love You Golden Blue (wma stream)
Occasionally we throw in the odd Window Media Stream and the new Sonic Youth seemed like a good reason to do so. The press release tries to convince us that Sonic Nurse, "the nineteenth long player by the New York City supernova, together since 1981", is extremely good: "After a solid twenty-three years of explosive creativity Sonic Youth throws down what may be their heaviest classic since their own genre-breaking Daydream Nation in 1988." While that may be exaggerated, it's true that Sonic Nurse is a good album by Kim Gordon, Thurston Moore, Lee Ranaldo, Steve Shelley and - last but quite essential to the band - Jim ORourke.
SOPHIA - Holidays are nice (radio edit) (D)
An extreme warm thanks to Labels and Tonspion for putting this online. A brand new Sophia your ears will very likely enjoy quite a lot. This is the radio edit of a song you can find on People Are Like Seasons.
RADIO 4 - Party Crashers (Headman Vocal Remix)
More thanks to Labels and Tonspion for another track they've put online. Radio 4 are back and while we're still angry about selling "Dance to the Underground" to that commercial, we thought we'd expose you to this remix.
AVRIL - Be yourself (remix)
And speaking of remixes... last time we introduced you to Avril. Now he's back with a stream of his single (thanks to the VPRO), though in a remix by his label director, Laurent Garnier. Avril's single was good, but this remix is an essential. Avril will be in Belgium (July 15) for the Dour festival.
DONNA SUMMER - Dragon Attack (D)
Cock rock disco is the name of Donna Summer's website. Not to be confused with the original Donna Summer. This Donna is actually one Jason Forrest. The Unrelenting Songs Of The 1979 Post Disco Crash has been out for two months now and Donna/Jason will be performing on the Dour festival as well (July 18).
eX-GIRL - Hettakorii No Ottokotou (D)
We've read that eX-Girl is avant-garde pop prog rock. I'm sure that'll make a few bells ring. They've been signed to the Alternative Tentacles label and have a new album out, Endangered Species. This track has been described as an LSD version of "Bohemian Rhapsody". Makes sense, oddly.
McLUSKY - Without MSG I Am Nothing (D)
And because we've been sick and you had to wait so long for an update: brand new McLusky. From their cd The difference between you and me is that I'm not on fire the opening track to close this edition (brought to you by betterpropaganda.com). We'll be back in ten days or so.
