Radio Kurtodrome 53
Radio Kurtodrome is back with 31 minutes and 31 seconds of online music. Welcome once again! We're one day late, but this is our excuse: a computer virus. Get ready for 5 downloads and 2 streams.
SPINVIS - In Staat Van Narcose (D)
Five years ago the VPRO launched Club 3VOOR12, a radio show also broadcast over the internet. Each show features three hours of songs and three artists performing live. Because of their lustrum the Club 3VOOR12 has offered a bunch of memorable songs in MP3 format. They can only be downloaded for a short period, so waste no time. "In Staat Van Narcose" was part of the set Spinvis played on November 6 2002.
SOLEX - Low Kick And Hard Bop (D)
And here's another download from Club 3VOOR12. Solex had recently been kicked off the Matador label, but her new album, The Laughing Stock of Indie Rock will be released on Arena Rock (also the home of Calla). This song was recorded on September 19 2001.
SOULWAX - This is the excuse (D)
"This is the excuse that we're making." Soulwax offer their apologies with a preview track from their new album. The album will be called Any Minute Now, a sly reference to the enormous time it took them to release the new album, and will be out in August. LCD Soundsystem's Nancy Whang offered the vocals for this track.
THE LIARS - There's always room on the broom
I don't think I've ever been to as many concerts as this year and next up is Les Nuits Botanique, who'll offer an interesting threesome on May 13. The Liars are top of the bill and it's been a while since we told you They Were Wrong So We Drowned was a great album.
McLUSKY - Alan is a cowboy killer
Celebrating the fact that their new album The Difference Between Me And You Is That I'm Not On Fire is out on Too Pure, McLusky will open for The Liars that night. "Alan Is A Cowboy Killer" is an older song (you'll find it on McLusky Do Dallas), but I've only just discovered it.
THE BLOOD BROTHERS - Ambulance vs ambulance (D)
Since looking at an empty stage isn't that much fun, The Blood Brothers will fill the gap that there otherwise would've been between McLusky and The Liars. Their album is called Burn, Piano Island, Burn.
CURSIVE - This Great Decay (D)
And we end this Radio Kurtodrome with Cursive, who were in the Democratische of 2003 with one of the gentlest songs of the year ("The Recluse"), but who are ofter much much louder. "The Great Decay", which can be found on Burst and Bloom, proves that. Saddle Creek distributes Cursive. We will be back in ten days (though we might have to make that 11 if there's yet another virus blocking us from updating the site - grmbl).
