Radio Kurtodrome 49
New songs. Old songs. Downloadable songs. Legal songs. This is Radio Kurtodrome, just over half an hour of music on the internet. Welcome!
TV ON THE RADIO - Staring at the sun (D)
"Satellite" was the song that narrowly made it to the Democratische 99 of 2003. By the same band and from the same album another song.
DEERHOOF - Giga Dance (D)
Ever since "Gore in rot", played many Radio Kurtodrome editions ago, we've been fans of Deerhoof. So to celebrate their new album Milk Man, here's a new MP3. And by the sounds of it, I think we're gonna celebrate it with an oriental dance.
BLONDE REDHEAD - Misery Is A Butterfly (D)
One of 4AD's latest signings is Blonde Redhead. Misery is a butterfly should be in the shops by now and on 4AD's site you're able to buy a digital single, Elephant Woman. From Misery is a butterfly, possibly the best album title of 2004, we play the title track.
THE BLACK HEART PROCESSION & SOLBAKKEN - Nervous Passion (D)
The ongoing project 'In The Fishtank' combines two bands who have to record an album in the Fishtank studios. The results are often more than good, those Fishtank people know who to pick. The latest picking is the combination of Kurtodrome favourites Black Heart Procession and Norwegian Solbakken. As a taster this MP3 from the good people of Insound. Enjoy the Black Heart Procession as haunting as they can get.
CALL AND RESPONSE - Trapped Under Ice (D)
Quoted from the Badman Recording Co. Site: "Call and Response are a musical ensemble hailing from the Bay Area, California. The music they compose is filled with rhythm, harmony, and warmth. Elements of classic pop, spacey jazz, film soundtracks, folk and soul music are only some of the musical inspirations drawn upon by the group. [...] Call and Response finished recording a new album in January 2004. With this record, the band innovates a sound that is impressionistic, mystical, and beautiful." The album Winds take no shape, comprising ten new songs, will be released in June on Badman.
SLOW SMILE - Back For Good (D)
We don't tend to play a song twice, but in Slow Smile's case we'll gladly make an exception (and the original download has disappeared from the net along with mp3.com). In real life Slow Smile listens to the name Gary Burt and if you remember him, you probably watched that Alternative Nation Live too. Way back in 1997 on some Tuesday night, Slow Smile was the winning Alternative Option (viewers could vote for their favourite of three unknown artists). The song was a Backstreet Boys cover and managed to keep lingering in some part of our brain ever since. Gary Burt has now been nice enough to post his songs on the net. Downloading for free is an option, but you're also invited to slip Mr. Burt some money (which he then will give to a good cause - currently the Red Cross). Here's Gary's site.
BOB HUND - Telefonsamtal Till Mor (D)
We don't oppose artists offering demo MP3s on their sites, but often the sound is just atrocious. That's also the case with Inengting by Bob Hund, though track n7 is a welcome exception. Which is why 'Telefonsamtal Till Mor' (which we think means 'telephone call to mother') is allowed to mark the end of Radio Kurtodrome 49. Will we do something special for our 50th edition? Find out in approximately ten days.
