Radio Kurtodrome 45: CLARENCE, YOU'RE IN A FILTHY MOOD TODAY
Radio Kurtodrome returns with a strange edition, combining songs that didn't make it into the Democratische 99 with a Lars Horntveth MP3 and some... erm... peculiar covers. Nevertheless (and because it's all downloadable & legal), enjoy!

BAND OF BLACKY RANCHETTE - Mope Along Rides Again (D)
Every now and then Howe Gelb releases an album as The Band of Blacky Ranchette. Seventeen years after the previous album, 2003 brought us Still Looking Good To Me.

MATES OF STATE - Ha ha (D)
We found this MP3 over at Insound, so let them do the talking: "Mates of State are the ultra-likeable, uber-intriguing duo of Jason Hammel and Kori Gardner. The couple is a non-stop touring presence whose live chemistry is genuinely magical. He sits behind the drum kit and sings, she plays a vintage Yamaha organ and sings; many dynamic exchanges take place between them--both spoken and unspoken. Now, on their third album, THE MATES' have found the perfect studio environment to capture their explosive live sound. The album, Team Boo, was recorded and mixed over three weeks at both WILLIE NELSON's Pedernales and Jim Eno's The Garage studios."

KID KOALA - Skanky Panky (D)
Eric San is Kid Koala's real name and Ninja Tune is the label that released his album Some of my best friends are DJs. In a way it's not that bad that Kid Koala didn't make it into the Democratische 99 as "Skanky Panky" and Lars Horntveth's song seem to go wonderfully well together.

LARS HORNTVETH - Tics (D)
Next week Lars Horntveth will be visiting Antwerp (to play at De Nachten), so let's plug the man. His solo album is called Pooka, but Norvegian Horntveth is of course mostly known for playing sax in Jaga Jazzist.

KRAKATOA - Albatross to Betatron (D)
Krakatoa is a Brooklyn-based band which migrated north from Philadelphia in January 2000. Krakatoa is Val Opielski (piano), Glendon Jones (violin), Ely Levin (drums) and Ted Casterline (bass). The band's latest, We are the Rowboats, was released by Cunieform Records in May 2003.

ELECTRELANE - On Parade (D)
Since two and two still equal four, I imagine you can remember that the new Electrelane cd will be released on 02/02/04. Brighton's quartet Electrelane will see The Power Out released on the Too Pure label.

SPILLSBURY - Schlagziele (D)
2003 must have been a great year for Spillsbury. The Kurtodrome has tried to do its bit for the German duo: "Die Wahrheit" was a video of the week, "Kurz vor vier" made it into the top 20 of our Best Of 2003 list, narrowly beating the tenth song on Raus, "Schlagziele", which you can enjoy in this edition of Radio Kurtodrome.

THE LONESOMES - 12:51 (D)
The Lonesomes are Jeff Lonesome, Cindy Snow, Anne Moo and Pierre Le Vache. And if you're wondering why there are so many cow references, listen to their cover of that Strokes song.

THE BLANKKET - Hey Ya! [LINK BROKEN] (D)
And speaking of covers, here's a truly exceptional one of that Outkast song almost everyone seems to like. I wonder if this will draw as many enthusiasts.

WING - My Favourite Things (D)
Usually we avoid excerpts on Radio Kurtodrome, but we wanted to make a change for Wing, but who's Wing? "Hi, I am Wing! I immigrated to New Zealand with my family about ten years ago from Hong Kong. I have been learning singing in New Zealand and I do performances in Rest Homes and Hospitals and occasionally promotional concerts as I go along. [...] My latest CDs are called Wing Sings The Carpenters and Wing Sings All your favourites." To end this edition, 37 seconds of "My Favourite Things". See you in 10 days!
