Radio Kurtodrome 42
Every now and then we manage to compile half an hour of music (all MP3, download or stream as usual) and find ourselves quite proud of the result. This edition is such an edition. Yes, 2003 may soon be a memory of times past, but Radio Kurtodrome has managed to find a few new records you should discover before Christmas.

LAUB - Temporaries (D)
Let's prove once and for all that Laub isn't the name of the next band with a typing error. Laub stand for "abstract german electronica that bridges the gap between song and track with ingenious creativity". Laub is a duo. His name is Jotka, she's called Antye Greie-Fuchs. "Temporaries" is a track of Laub's album Filesharing, a quite ironic title in these times.

LAMB - Clouds Clear (D)
Like many people, I feel rather ambigious (and even a bit disappointed) about the latest Lamb album, which is called Darkness. But maybe this is the sort of album that needs to grow on you... we'll see. Anyway, "Clouds Clear" is the best (available) track we've heard on the album.

UNDER BYEN - Puma (D)
Under Byen, a Danish band since 1995, are no less than seven people playing instruments, from the regular variety (bass, drums, piano etc.) to rarer instruments like cello and saw. So far they've released two (full) albums, Kyst (1999) and 2002's Det er mig, der holder trerne sammen (which translates as "It's Me Keeping the Trees Together"). "Puma" is from an EP released in 1997. One publicity photo for the band featured a girl lying on the street with blood meandering from her head. That's how we discover bands, you know.

EBERG - Stupid Happy Song (D)
Icelandic Eberg plays the eharp, a combination of a harp and a coathanger. And no, we're not kidding you. He has an album out, Plastic Lions, and "Stupid Happy Song" is track n4.

SWELL - Next to nothing (D)
Did you know that 300 miles separate the two of Swell? David lives in San Francisco and Sean in Santa Barbara. Now this may cause quite some friction but as David succinctly puts it, "that's not necessarily a bad thing". Here's another track from Whenever You're Ready. Because we can. Because it's great.

BUDOR STAR DMY - Usnul dub nad stdem hub (D)
Call us stupid if you want to. Last time we played you the wrong Budor Star Dmy song. Instead of "Usnul dub nad stdem hub" we gave you "Pomsta neuklzejc kozeně". And it's not like both titles resemble each other. Still, a very good reason to play some more Old Lady's Boudoir. And with these sounds by Marta, těpn, Eva, Da and Ondra we'll leave you for ten days. Stay well!
