Radio Kurtodrome 41
As of this edition Radio Kurtodrome slips back into its regular format of 30 minutes per edition. Don't worry: we will provide you longer editions every now and then, but there just isn't enough (legal) downloadable music to provide you with a good edition every ten days. So as not to betray our original goal: it's been 10 days, now enjoy a brand new edition.
POLE - Back Home (D)
Stefan Betke goes by the nom de plume of Pole and his latest single is only available online. Which is where we come in. "Back Home" features Fat Jon and this is the freestyle version of the song. That's all we can tell you.
VIVE LA FTE - Nuit Blanche
More from that ultrahip Belgian couple. "Parties every day, yes, it's eccentric. I say "Long Live The Party" to be heroic" still sounds plausible till you add lyrics like "He doesn't like soup, he doesn't like coffee." But who cares? It's party time thanks to this VPRO stream.
THE FALL - Theme From Sparta FC
Okay, can anyone explain how we've managed to fill 40 episodes without including a song by The Fall? Actually, we can: The Fall isn't that available online, but thanks to another VPRO stream (yes, more thanks) we're finally able to include The Fall in our playlists. And don't you think they match nicely with Vive La Fte?
DESERT SESSIONS FEAT. PJ HARVEY - Powdered Wig Machine (D)
The man behind Desert Sessions is one Josh Homme. He's been quoted to say: "Desert Sessions is good for me, and for the musicians that participate, because you get with a bunch of people you do and dont know--amazingly talented people--and you hear things done in a way you never would have thought of. [...] Its a chance to try some new ideas or rhythms, or pick up stuff." One person picking up stuff was Polly Jean Harvey and you can hear her on "Powdered Wig Machine".
BRIGHT EYES - Something Vague (D)
Not unsimilar to that Desert Session (but not that similar either) is this older Bright Eyes song. You can find "Something Vague" on Fevers And Mirrors.
BIRDSONGS OF THE MESOZOIC - The Beat of the Mesozoic (part 1) (D)
And now for something highly unusual. Birdsongs of the Mesozoic was formed in 1980 as a low-volume side-project by Mission of Burma guitarist Roger Miller, with Erik Lindgren, Rick Scott and Martin Swope.
BUDOR STAR DMY - Pomsta neuklzejc kozeně (demo) (D)
Franois Couture of allmusic.com had this to say: "An old lady drinking tea in the boudoir is not the image that crosses your mind when listening to Budor Star Dmy, even though its name means just that." The Czech band released an album (For Playing) in 2001 and on their site you can listen to some of those songs, albeit in a live version. Which is why this doesn't sound as good as it does on the record, but it's enough to give you a rough idea.
ENON - Startastic (D)
Say, that was a strange edition of Radio Kurtodrome, wasn't it? And to finish edition 41 Enon's current single. I would like to point out that there are tracks on Hocus Pocus I like much better (e.g. "Murder Sounds"), but that doesn't say I don't like "Startastic". You just won't see it on top of my Best of Year list. But it's certainly good enough to end this edition. We'll see you in approximately ten days.
