Radio Kurtodrome 40
You had to wait a bit longer, but Radio Kurtodrome is finally back.
ARAB STRAP - Cherubs (D)
You know how you like certain songs but you always forget to play them? Well, here's Arab Strap kicking off the 40th edition of Radio Kurtodrome with one such song. And the long wait is also over for Built To Spill and Amstrong, both older tracks we just couldn't play in one of our previous editions. And for The Postal Service and for... okay, this is a "Songs We Wanted To Play In Previous Editions But Couldn't" special. Catchy title, eh?
THE DECEMBERISTS - The Soldiering Life (D)
When you start listening, you might think we're only playing this because a friend of ours likes this, but stay tuned and discover why this song has every right to be on Radio Kurtodrome.
THE POSTAL SERVICE - The District Sleeps Alone Tonight (D)
One of the best singles of the year and it took some time before we could track it down on the net, but now The Postal Service's label Subpop released this MP3. For further Postal Service, check our archive to hear the equally excellent "Such Great Heights".
AMSTRONG - See Me When I'm Gone (D)
If you haven't know the Kurtodrome for ages, there's a chance you never heard us talking about the Danish band Amstrong. After all, Amstrong's album Hot Water Music was released way before Radio Kurtodrome had its first edition. But now this song is finally where it belongs: in the permanent archive of songs we plugged, right here on Radio Kurtodrome.
LOW - Sunflower (D)
Who said we only get to play recent stuff? Here's Low, back in 2001 (okay, not that much of a distant past) from the album Things We Lost In The Fire.
DEATH CAB FOR CUTIE - Title and Registration (D)
Death Cab For Cutie have a new album out, Transatlantacism, and it's been getting a considerable amount of praise from reviewers all over the world. Here's one new track for you to enjoy.
BUILT TO SPILL - Joy Ride (D)
"This part of this song is called the second verse. Sounds just like the first verse, but with different words." One just has to play a song boasting that kind of lyrics, especially when it's a Built To Spill song. This is from the Normal Years album.
LADYTRON - Oops (Oh My)
And by way of novelty, Ladytron's pumped-up cover of 'that' song. The track isn't downloadable and for once we play a song in Windows Media format, but then again this is a "Things we never played otherwise" special, so it sort of belongs in here. You can find the song as a B-side on Ladytron's new mix album (Softcore Jukebox - and what is it with these mix compilations anyway? Are record labels trying a new way of getting our money?) and as a b-side track on the "Evil" single.
PRETTY GIRLS MAKE GRAVES - All Medicated Geniuses (D)
The New Romance is the title of the latest PGMG album which was released in September. That's it for this edition, we'll be back soon.
