Radio Kurtodrome 36
More than ever Radio Kurtodrome raises its fist at all those radio stations who claim they're still pure and/or rebellious but do nothing but suck up to the big labels and play all the commercial crap they claim to like. Don't get us wrong: there's nothing wrong with you liking the umpteenth nu-metal band concucted from the umpteenth manager's brain, but we believe that the so-called alternative radio stations should play other stuff too.
But no, they claim that there are too many fishes in the pond and that the other stations force them to eliminate the alternative shows first. But really, if everyone's doing it, wouldn't it be a GOOD thing to be one of the few with decent alternative music? Apparently not and let's play the latest hype for which a big label gave us lots of money if only we'd play it.
Radio Kurtodrome will continue to shake its fist at this sort of programming and from now on will be longer. That's right: 40 to 45 minutes every edition. Because we can and because we think we ought to. So without further redo (apart from a quick apology saying we're sorry we were so sick we had to skip the second part of our Les Nuits Botanique special) here's the first extra-long show (over 43 minutes) with bands you know and bands you may not know. Enjoy!

THE STROKES - 12:51 (D)
One hears many things about The Strokes, like 'fakers' and 'overhyped bunch', but did anyone tell you it's nice they give you the occasional free download of their singles? No? Well, then we said it first and here's "12:51" straight from the band's website.

HUGO RACE - A.M. Radio (D)
Hugo Race used to be in Nick Cave's Bad Seeds (way back in time), but he's been a solo artist for a while now. Here you'll hear him in the company of True Spirit. You'll find this track on the album The Goldstreet Sessions.

M. WARD - Vincent O'Brien (D)
"He only sings when he's sad and he's sad all the time." Those are the first words you'll hear in the song, but it would be unjust to call this a sad song. It would be right to call it a track off M. Ward's third album Transfiguarion of Vincent though.

BELLE AND SEBASTIAN - I'm waking up to us (D)
This Scottish combo may have a new album out, but we found this older track first. Since this is an MP3 off the Vitaminic site, please do not try to stream this song. Just download and listen to it from your hard drive.

AZURE RAY - November (D)
If you only have time to download one track of this edition, make sure it's this one and if you're still reading this in September, quickly become a member of the Cityslang MP3 Club because this month's free offer is the excellent "Sea of Doubt" by Azure Ray. Azure Ray or Maria Taylor (vocals/guitars/keyboards) and Orenda Fink (vocals/bass/guitars/trumpet/etc.) are a duo from Athens, Georgia and this song is from the album called November.

PALE 3 FT. 12 ROUNDS - Just Another Day (D)
Pale 3 and 12 Rounds collaborated on this song for the OST of The Princess and the Warrior.

SWELL - California, Arizona
Swell have been around since 1989 and still make interesting music. This song can be found on the Californians' latest album Whenever You're Ready.

ADAM GREEN - Jessica (D)
Much more lo-fi than some would expect of a Moldy Peach, but oh what a fabulous song.

WILLARD GRANT CONSPIRACY - River In The Pines (D)
You can catch The Willard Grant Conspiracy opening for The Walkabouts in Ghent on the excellent day that is October 2. A good reason to play some new Willard Grant Conspiracy (if ever we needed one).

SOUTH SAN GABRIEL - Smelling Medicinal (D)
And the honour of waving goodbye this very first extra-long edition of Radio Kurtodrome goes to South San Gabriel (see also RK 33). We'll see you in ten days or so. Enjoy yourself, remember to keep up the fight for the music you live and goodbye!
