Radio Kurtodrome 33: Pukkelpop (3)
This third and final instalment focuses on the third day of the Pukkelpop festival. Who'll entertain the masses on Saturday?

MICHAEL FRANTI & SPEARHEAD - Oh my God (D)
Trust Spearhead to spread some positive vibes (and messages) amongst the crowd. Here's a live MP3 (recorded in New York?) from their website. Spearhead will walk towards the main stage just before 6pm. Apart from Flipo Mancini and PJ Harvey (both soundless on the net) there isn't much to be seen on the main stage. Least of all the headlining Shrimp Bizkit. Bring your "I Love Britney!" shirts to the festival.

THE VUE - Do you ever? (D)
The Vue claim they mix punk and blues. The MP3 they offered on their site is a demo version. To hear if it sounds different these days, enter the marquee at 15.20.

SAVES THE DAY - At your funeral (D)
After having to cancel their first Pukkelpop concert one or two years ago, Saves The Day say they'll play extremely well this time (marquee, 16.50).

THE MARS VOLTA - Drunkship Of Lanterns
The new album by The Mars Volta seems to specialize in overlong songs with some exceptions. They used to be more gripping, but this song will do just fine. Whether the live versions of the De-Loused in the Mausoleum will blow your mind is a question that will be answered on Saturday (marquee, 20.45). And remind yourself to stay in or return to the Marquee as Eels will play after The Mars Volta.

PRETTY GIRLS MAKE GRAVES - 3 away (D)
According to OC Weekly, "Pretty Girls Make Graves mixes killer rock with feminism". If you wanna make some noise, make it like this. Not like the bubblegum rebellion on the mainstage. See you in the Chateau at 3pm.

RADIO 4 - How The Stars Got Crossed (D)
The Kurtodrome is a fan since "Dance to the Underground" and "Eyes Wide Open" was played in RK22. Call it a recommendation and while we're at it, don't forget that Wire will put out the lights in the Chateau.

IMA ROBOT - Black Jettas
Bass player Justin Meldal-Johnsen's cv looks impressive with the inclusions of a.o. Tori Amos, Air, Marianne Faithful, Frank Black, The Mars Volta, Mark Eitzel, Ladytron and Turin Brakes. He now has his own synth-pop project, IMA Robot, and a self-titled album of which "Black Jettas" is the bonus track.

DEAD MAN RAY - Landslide (atom remix) (D)
Just how the original version of "Landslide" sounds is something you can check out in our video archive. The only MP3 on offer was this remix and since Dead Man Ray will play in the more experimental tent (Chateau) it wouldn't hurt to play this odd remix, we thought.

APPARAT ORGAN QUINTET - Romantica (D)
Here's an MP3 we regret not having found earlier. Apparat Organ Quartet is 4 Icelandic men operating ancient, highly customized electric music machines, including cheap home organs, Farfisas and Russian synthesizers. And one drummer. The music machines will have been carried to the Dance Hall at 13.50, which is when the concert begins. Speaking of concerts, The Matthew Herbert Big Band (that is indeed the Matthew Herbert of Herbert) will play next. Other Dance Hall acts include Audio Bullys and Junkie XL.

SOUTH SAN GABRIEL - Saint Augustine (D)
Will Johnson is (part of) two bands, Centrom-matic and South San Gabriel. The latter will come to Pukkelpop and are well worth your attention. The album Welcome, Convalescense was released in April of this year. And with this thing of beauty we end this Pukkelpop special of Radio Kurtodrome. Have fun at the festival or see you in ten days!
