Radio Kurtodrome 30
Welcome to the last usual Radio Kurtodrome for a while. The next three editions will be dedicated to the Pukkelpop festival. So one more time: thirty minutes of music we chose because we like it.
ROBERT JOHNSON - Phonograph Blues (D)
Yes, it's the middle of the summer and this is the MP3 blues. Not many new recordings, so this is the MP3 blues. So here is Robert Johnson and the predecessor to the MP3 blues.
BARCELONA - I Have The Password To Your Shell Account (D)
Making a Radio Kurtodrome in the middle of summer isn't the easiest thing. Not many new releases and we didn't find that many new MP3s either. So whilst checking our archive, we came across this track from the disbanded Barcelona that had been lingering for more than a year in our MP3 files. Then again, Washington's Barcelona don't exist anymore, so they won't care that much.
RUMPLESTITCHKIN - Voodoo smile (D)
Rumplestitchkin are a Belgian band with a difficult name and lots of bad luck. Their story is that of record companies going bankrupt. Let's hope Petrol will be luckier as that label just released Small Time Hero, the band's debut album. "Voodoo Smile" is the first single and is available online.
MATES OF STATE - A Control Group (D)
Acccording to their bio, "Mates of State is the organ and drums, vocal-laden duo of Kori Gardner and Jason Hammel." The Californian band (and married couple) essentially began in 1997. Polyvinyl Records will be releasing the third full length record entitled Team Boo in September of 2003. The bio ends with a big hint: "Their shows consist of packed crowds singing, smiling, and dancing and, of course, the private jokes between Kori and Jason." So now you know what to do.
RAINER MARIA - The Double Life (D)
Long Knives Drawn is the title of the latest Rainer Maria album. Their current single, "Ears Ring", is getting some airplay on MTV America, so we thought we'd choose another song. And there's even a link here: they're mates with the Mates of State.
BOYSKOUT - Secrets (D)
Some people don't have a double life, they have secrets. And secrets can come out as this poppy tune from the Alive Total Energy label will tell you.
DEERHOOF - Gore by Rot (D)
Because it's the middle of the summer and because we like the occasional laugh: Bunny! Bunny! Bunny! Bunny! Bunny!
KINSKI - Semaphore (D)
Kinski are a rock quartet from Seattle and although most of their songs are instrumental, here's a song with vocals. It wasn't easy to find a Kinski (yes, named after Klaus) MP3, as it isn't easy to find their stuff. Kinski have a released EPs, CDs and vinyls on various record labels. "Semaphore" is from the EP Semaphore out on Sub Pop.
PEDRO THE LION - Never Leave A Job Half Done (D)
And it's with an old track by Pedro The Lion we wish you a fond farewell for ten days. Next time we'll look at the Thursday lineup of the Pukkelpop festival.
