Radio Kurtodrome 25
Twenty-five editions young and the world of legal MP3s just seems to open wider to us. Maybe a 25th edition is some kind of a landmark and maybe it's time to reflect how many wonderful songs we've already unearthed for you. Don't worry, we'll keep digging and share the nicest discoveries in the world of streams and (D for downloadable) MP3s.

THE AMERICAN ANALOG SET - The only one (D)
This band was formed in Texas in 1995 and has just released a new album, The Promise of Love. It's out on Tiger Style Records, the label that also distributes 2001's Know By Heart and on that album you can find this wonderful gem of a song.

TWINEMEN - Spinner
As Ted Drozdowski from The Boston Phoenix phrased it: "Twinemen are a new band that combine improvisation and organic soul chemistry with a deep respect for the song to create music that is difficult to describe, and yet resonates with a warm sense of familiarity. [...] Dana and Billy have a credible history of just that from their years with the band Morphine. Twinemen were brought together after the death of their friend and bandmate, Mark Sandman, [...]. This is their first original project since Morphine. In the year after Mark's death they put together Orchestra Morphine, a nine piece rollicking celebration of the work of Morphine, and toured the US and Italy. One of the members of Orchestra Morphine was singer Laurie Sargent, and with her the seeds were sown for the music that would become Twinemen." Twinemen is out on Cooking Vinyl.

RALPH MYERZ AND THE JACK HERREN BAND - Nikita (retake)
We'd never heard of Ralph Myerz (let alone the Jack Herren band) until we heard their album in a record store. The album sounded very intriguing and we'll return to the store one day to listen to the other tracks. Till then, have this taster and the knowledge their music (the ep A Special ep and the album A special album) is out on Emperor Norton.

BAUER & SPINVIS - Dancing Bear (D)
Here's a nice little oddity. Two editions ago, we told you about the song Spinvis made for the VPRO's 3voor12 site. Actually, Spinvis also collaborated with Bauer on another song for that VPRO MP3 compilation. Bauer left the Excelsior label two years ago (slamming doors and all), but now he's returned and shares a label with a.o. Spinvis. Maybe that's how this strange song originated, we don't know. Anyway, it's not what you'd expect from Spinvis, but enjoy it nonetheless.

YO LA TENGO - Don't have to be so sad (D)
We discovered Yo La Tengo in Hal Hartley's films. It's nice to see them still around ten years later. We'll celebrate by playing them on this edition of Radio Kurtodrome.

LEMON JELLY - Ramblin' man
Some songs just have to grow before you'll appreciate their true beauty. Luckily Lemon Jelly's songs are always so long the initial appreciation kicks in halfway through the song. Another Lemon Jelly song... because we can.

GONZALES FT. FEIST - Lovertits (D)
Gonzales has a new album out, or rather a remixed 'best of'. This 25th edition closes with a surprisingly mellow duet between Gonzales and Feist. Proving once again that Gonzales has many faces and tastes, here he shows us his softer electronic side. That's it for this Radio Kurtodrome. In ten days we'll be back with a look at the Dour Festival. Edition 27 will be dedicated to two festivals: Rock Herk (that's where you'll find us) and Cactus Festival. Until we meet again: sweet dreams.
